After years of speculation, rumors, delays, hype and fanfare, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally arrived. Fans across the world are riding into Night City for the very first time for what appears to be a mostly positive, if not somewhat troubled, experience.

This reaction has caused a temperance to the initial expectations of CD Projekt Red’s game following the commercial and critical darling, The Witcher 3.  It would seem not everyone wants their visit to Cyberpunk 2077's not-so-distant future to last forever. Popular CS:GO streamer, Shroud, shared this sentiment recently with a fan, while streaming.

When the follower in question referenced the length of the game, the fan noted the game “would die in a month.”  To this, Shroud candidly replied “I hope so.”  Shroud quickly clarified that this was a single player game, and he did not want to spend his whole life playing it. Shroud went on to elaborate that he wants to be “spending just enough time and then get out," despite the apparent countless hours of content to be played and discovered.

Shroud also had positive thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077, saying he was indeed excited to play it. He appeared to be looking past the current incarnation of the game, with an anticipatory eye towards the latest generations of gaming machines. "I’m excited to see what their definition of next-gen is,” he said in earnest. CD Projekt Red’s opus will eventually be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2021.

With over 7 years in development and repeated delays so close to the finish line, few games in recent memory, if ever, have had the anticipation and high expectations of Cyberpunk 2077. Shroud seems to be taking a practical view that may benefit many gamers. CD Projekt Red’s previous outing, The Witcher 3, had hundreds of hours of content for players to enjoy at their leisure. For many people, this much content and gameplay time can seem overwhelming or impossible to achieve. Following a golden path, or a game’s main story line, may very well be the way many people choose to spend their time in this complex future.

Despite this, there will be people who spend every available minute exploring every alley, rooftop, and underbelly that Night City has to offer. CD Projekt Red is arguably one of the best world and lore builders in the video game industry, and its work deserves to be explored and reflected on. For many fans, finding in-game writing or journals is just as exhilarating as a shoot-out.

Even with its fair share of bugs and complaints, there is no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 has completely captured the attention of gamers around the world. Even casual players have been intrigued, thanks to an invitation by Night City’s unofficial mascot, Keanu Reeves. With such immense depth and mainstream appeal, this game’s story is only getting started.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions coming in 2021.
