Last week, Atlus finally revealed exactly when players would get their hands on Shin Megami Tensei 5, debuting an action-packed release date trailer for the Nintendo Switch exclusive during E3. However, it seems the team wasn't done showing off what's next for the long-running JRPG property, as Atlus has debuted another look at the upcoming title.
Shin Megami Tensei 5's latest showcase covers similar ground to the one shown during Nintendo's recent Direct, beginning with the protagonist appearing in an alternate, post-apocalyptic Tokyo. There, they fuse with a mysterious savior who defends them from demons, with the pair becoming a "Nahobino," which the trailer claims is a "condemned being."
While it might not share anything new from a story perspective, the clip does offer plenty of fresh gameplay, showing the protagonist navigating a variety of environments as they battle demonic entities. Unlike Shin Megami Tensei 5's last trailer, the game's additional party members get more time in the spotlight, with it seeming as though players will be able to recruit a multifaceted roster of supporting characters with powerful abilities. The protagonist is no slouch either, with one section of the trailer showing a spectacular finishing move titled "Wrath Tempest," where they create a whirlwind using blade slashes to inflict heavy damage.
The trailer also showcases a first look at the in-game storefront, which is manned by a creepy green skeleton chained to a golden throne. Meanwhile, there's another look at the game's dialogue system, both through the player recruiting a Fairy Pixie to their team and talking to a nearby Mokoi. The new look at the game coincides with pre-orders opening, with fans now able to pick up the game from various retailers or on Atlus' official website.
There's a few versions of the game up for grabs, with a standard copy, a steelbook variant, or a collector's edition. The latter comes loaded with goodies for Shin Megami Tensei fans, including a sling bag, a demon handbook, a 2-disc soundtrack, a steelbook case, and a collectible box.
Shin Megami Tensei 5 joins a stacked lineup of games slated to make their way to the Nintendo Switch in the coming months, including Metroid Dread, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Advance Wars 1+2, Mario Party Superstars, and WarioWare: Get it Together. It looks to be the first new iteration of Atlus' iconic Shin Megami Tensei series in eight years, with Shin Megami Tensei 4 launching for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2013.
Shin Megami Tensei 5 is slated to hit Nintendo Switch on November 11.
