'Shift 2 Unleashed' Trailer Spotlights Dangerous Corners

Shift 2 Unleashed Trailer Corners

It's hard to understand the fundamentals of racing without actually giving it a try, since watching a race and taking part in one are vastly different experiences. Real racers know that the deadliest spots on any track are the corners, forcing drivers to walk the fine line between passing and wrecking. But those are also the places where the choices that can make or break an entire race are made. The latest trailer for Shift 2 Unleashed focuses on these simple bends that possess the ability to award victory to one driver, while taking the life of another.

It's easy enough to understand the various aspects of skilled driving - smart shifts, braking late, drafting, and the occasional Scandinavian flick - but to truly master them is often a test of will as much as it is a test of memory. Shift 2's stunning gameplay trailer proved that the developers at Slightly Mad Studios understand just how thrilling the experience can be from moment to moment, but this latest video is all about the mental side of racing.

You see, turns aren't just a way of connecting straight bits of road. They're not even a small obstacle to overcome and master over time.

Nobody has ever said that races are won and lost on the straights, because to get a trophy in their hands, drivers must first put their lives on the line.

So take a look at the newest trailer for Shift 2 Unleashed, 'Dangerous Corners,' and see if you have what it takes to overcome the man-eating monsters lurking on some of the world's most prolific racetracks:

The developers of Shift 2 are clearly spending their time on the right aspects of racing in their quest to create the most realistic simulation ever. It's one thing to provide some of racing's most beloved cars with the Limited Edition, but to really try to get players to feel the terror and mental stress that taking a corner entails is a lofty goal.

Slightly Mad didn't waste any time in calling Gran Turismo 5 an incomplete experience, so hopefully they have a better grasp on what racing fans really want from a simulator.

We won't know until the game is released, but the developers obviously want Shift 2 to be the first driving title to make players really feel the rush - and terror-  of competitive racing.

Shift 2 Unleashed will be sliding onto the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 29, 2011.
