Frogwares announces a new Sherlock Holmes game and confirms that it will be released on PC, current-generation consoles and PS5, and Xbox Series X. The last game developed by Frogwares was the Lovecraftian adventure The Sinking City, which released in 2019.

The next release in the Sherlock Holmes adventure series will be Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, it has been announced. Set to be released in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, it will be a prequel title that features a much younger version of the world-famous detective. Frogwares describes the protagonist as being "more volatile" than in other games in the series, this version of Sherlock Holmes will be working with a companion named Jon (who isn't Dr. John Watson) as they head to the Mediterranean island of Holmes' birth and begin to investigate a massive conspiracy.

In reviews of The Sinking City, the game was criticized for technical issues as bugs such as AI issues, disappearing NPCs, and disappearing sound. In a game that is likely to largely feature the protagonist interviewing characters and searching the island for clues, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will be nearly unplayable if it also has these kinds of bugs.

Another criticism of the game was its graphics, which were called Xbox 360-like. The PS5 and Xbox Series X support 8K graphics which could potentially mean that Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will look better, but not enough of the game has been shown to confirm that.

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will be released in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
