6/7 Update: Publisher Deep Silver has commented on a Shenmue 3 Xbox One release. Original story follows.

Since the surprise announcement of Shenmue 3 at the Sony E3 2015 press conference, there has only been indication that this long awaited followup would be releasing on PlayStation 4 and PC. However, fans have done some digging into a recently launched Shenmue 3 pre-order website, and they have unearthed evidence that seems to point directly to a Shenmue 3 Xbox One release as well.

Specifically, it has been discovered that the source code for the Shenmue 3 pre-order website contains a reference to an Xbox-related asset: an "xbox" image file. While this image is not currently visible to those that visit the website, it would appear directly next to the PS4 logo under the "Choose Your System" heading. This might lead many fans to assume that the asset in question is an Xbox One logo, and they would be correct in that assumption.

Indeed, visiting the location of the asset listed in the source code brings fans directly to an Xbox One logo, and some players have even edited the source code to see how the website would look if the asset was not hidden. As expected, the Xbox One logo displays clearly next to the PS4 logo as a second system option, which is certainly compelling evidence that Shenmue 3 is headed to Xbox One.

That said, without an official announcement, a Shenmue 3 Xbox One release should currently be considered speculative. While there is no indication of when such an announcement might come, the timing of the launch of the pre-order website may point to E3 2019, and it does not seem outside the realm of possibility that Shenmue 3 could be confirmed for Xbox One during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference.

Additionally, that E3 press conference could give some insight into the Shenmue 3 Xbox One release date. After a number of delays, fans are now expecting the Shenmue 3 release date to be November 19, but it is possible that the game will be available to PS4 owners before Microsoft fans get access to it. Fortunately, E3 is now only days away, which means that Shenmue 3 for Xbox One could be officially announced in very short order.
