There’s no doubt that Shenmue 3 is a popular game, considering its Kickstarter campaign collected $2 million in under eight hours and ended with over $6 million. Now, with the crowdfunded game set to release soon, fans and funders will hopefully see this game pay off. It remains to be seen what other surprises are coming from the popular series, but for now, Ys Net has revealed some interesting new images.
During a conference at Magic Monaco, series creator Yu Suzuki showcased four new images of Shenmue 3. The images show off Ryo Hazuki and other characters, including a close-up on a young girl’s face, which may alleviate fans still worried about the facial expressions in the game.
After all, it would be understandable to remain concerned following Shenmue 3’s previously released teaser trailer. Shortly after the trailer’s release, the development team released a dev diary in response that showed the continued work on the facial animation. Hopefully the recently released images do much to alleviate these worries for the crowdfunded game.

The images definitely seem to show off the best of the upcoming action-adventure game. It may even make fans ask: “Who is the old man?” “Does the new character’s aggressive stance mean he’s an antagonist?” It seems likely that these questions won’t be answered until the crowdfunded game releases, but these new images may instill a new confidence in the game for many.
When the game launches later this year, it will be published by Saints Row publisher Deep Silver. Suzuki explained that “throughout this process, Deep Silver has expressed a deep passion for Japanese games, the Shenmue franchise, and its fans. This gives me further confidence in Shenmue 3 and that we have found the best partner possible.” It is nice to see the crowdfunded game continuing to receive support, as the game hopefully has a smooth launch that exceeds fan and funder expectations.
Shenmue 3 is set to release for PC and PlayStation 4 in late 2018
