She-Ra (the Princess of Power) is getting a live-action adaptation for Amazon's streaming platform. The project is currently in the early stages of development and will have no connection to the She-Ra animated series that debuted on Netflix.

Plot details are scarce right now, but the She-Ra series can potentially become the start of a live-action franchise set in the Masters of the Universe world that may bring in the other characters. There was a live-action film of the same name in 1987 that starred Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, The Expendables & Aquaman), but it's at a point now where fans deserve a new rendition that will hopefully move forward, unlike Sony's Masters of the Universe project.

Variety reports Amazon Studios and Dreamworks Animation have partnered to develop the new She-Ra project, though the storyline will be completely new and unrelated to the animated show the latter company produced for Netflix. She-Ra has received immense amounts of popularity following her solo Netflix series and it appears Amazon looks to continue this into the live-action format. Since most of the Masters of the Universe properties have been in an animated format, this will be a big step to see how they make that jump to live-action for this upcoming She-Ra series. The animated format for this genre is typically more practical due to the setting, apparel, magic, and combat that's required of the Masters of the Universe franchise.

She-Ra Mara

Since Amazon's She-Ra series will be live-action, fans should expect a unique take on the long-running franchise, as it will add a more grounded look to the supernaturally based world. Netflix's recent Masters of the Universe animated series has had fans' interest peaked by bringing in both new and old fans alike to watch the show, despite it becoming a thing of debate. So with this traction, it appears that Amazon looks to capitalize off of it.

She-Ra is also known as Princess Adora and is from the Masters of the Universe franchise, which also brought fans He-Man and Skeletor. She-Ra is the twin sister of Prince Adam, who is also known as He-Man. The creators initially created her as a way to market to younger women, but her character was never viewed as an equal to He-Man by fans because she was always written as someone hesitant to fight or use violence despite having immense power. The reason for this is because they gave her character a deep level of empathy that enabled her to communicate with animals and use tactical reasoning as well as her intelligence to get out of situations. But in the end, it ended up making her more passive than anything.

Since Amazon's She-Ra series will have no ties to the animated show, expect it to be a great story that fans won't have any expectations for. She-Ra's character will potentially get a lot more time to shine in this than her original character debut. Her powers include superhuman strength and superhuman speed/reflexes (that enable her to block projectiles), while her sword grants her energy manipulation and transmutation. Netflix's The Witcher proved that this supernatural fantasy genre can be done well given the right team and enough time, so hopefully fans get what they're looking for.

She-Ra is in early development at Amazon Prime Video.
