When Disney Plus' She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series ended, many fans praised the meta fourth-wall break that Tatiana Maslany was a part of in the finale. Her confrontation with the artificial intelligence known as K.E.V.I.N., a representation of the Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, was entertaining to watch but even more fun for the VFX team to create.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law promised to be different from the get-go. The series included commentary on female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and some scenes even called out the studio’s own flaws. The She-Hulk season finale had Maslany's Jennifer Walters confront the studio’s writers about her storyline and eventually come face to face with K.E.V.I.N. For this scene, the creators aimed to capture Feige's demeanor as best as possible.

A lot of old footage of Feige speaking at live events was watched before the team nailed down K.E.V.I.N.'s final look and character. "We dug up some old Comic-Con footage of him giving a 30-minute interview. We had that on our system, so that the animators could really dive in and see if they could find things that he did that made him feel like himself,” said Digital Domain Animation Supervisor Elizabeth Bernard during an interview with ComicBook.com. One important aspect was the hat, which Feige is often seen wearing at events. Additionally, the team noticed that he “talks with his hands a lot,” and so designed K.E.V.I.N.'s movements to reflect that.

She-Hulk Kevin Early Design

Designing She-Hulk's KEVIN began in the early stages of the series' production. “I think most of us on the team were not thinking that this would be in the show, because it seems so bizarre,” said VFX Supervisor Jan Philip Cramer. After they read the script and saw the dialogue exchange between Walters and K.E.V.I.N., they realized they could have some fun with it. The team created several “random animations” of K.E.V.I.N. and placed him in a space that looked like an “old '70s sports bar that was amazing at the time, but now it's not so cool.”

It was quite fun for the team to keep the secret from the world, though they did love sharing it with any new members who joined their team throughout She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. As the supervisor, Bernard would explain the plot and characters to the newcomers. “My coordinator on the show always liked the moment when I would drop the K.E.V.I.N. bomb. Because the animators, most of them know who Kevin Feige is… and you would just see the jaw drop,” she said.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is now streaming on Disney Plus.
