Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been patiently waiting for Daredevil’s official introduction. While Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock has already made an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen hasn’t donned his suit in the MCU just yet. That is about to change pretty soon with She-Hulk finally bringing him into the fold. However, considering how much his appearance has already been promoted, is his arrival going to be underwhelming?

Before She-Hulk even premiered, Marvel had already revealed that Daredevil would make an appearance in the series. He was even included in one of the trailers, and was seen wearing his yellow and black suit, true to the comics. While adding footage of him in the trailer definitely increased the hype for the latest Marvel series, was it a disservice to the fans? Perhaps the studio should have kept Daredevil’s arrival more under wraps, instead of revealing his inclusion early on.

Five episodes in, and She-Hulk still hasn’t introduced Daredevil to the waiting fans. Week after week, fans complain about how the character hasn’t been brought in yet, worried that the show will let him be a passing cameo. Towards the end of the latest episode though, his arrival is teased by a glimpse of his new costume. But, the studio has already revealed the entire look in the trailer, making the new episode fall short on fan expectations once again.

In the latest She-Hulk episode, the titular character’s friend Nikki Ramos asks for assistance from “the guy who makes clothing for superheroes,” a.k.a the Drip Broker. She’s looking out for her friend, and wants to get her some clothing that would adapt to both her Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk form. At first, the Drip Broker is not interested, but seeing Jen transform between her dual forms, he is finally persuaded to design clothing that doesn’t rip during the change. Towards the end of the episode, Jen arrives at his secret location to collect her order, which is when it is revealed that the Drip Broker is also designing something special for Daredevil.

In the Netflix Daredevil series, Cox’s Murdock first refuses to wear any body armor. However, during an encounter with Vincent D'Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, he discovers that his nemesis wears a suit that protects him even from sharp weapons. He is able to withstand being stabbed courtesy of the fabric that he dons. Murdock then tracks down Melvin Potter, the individual who created the suit of armor for Fisk, and enlists him to create the first Daredevil suit. The suit in question is red and black, although the initial comics run had him wearing a yellow and black suit in his early days of fighting. It seems like the MCU is taking a different route.

The latest She-Hulk episode makes one question why Daredevil is now working with this new character called the Drip Broker, rather than Potter. The only way to justify this shift in suit maker is the fact that the Netflix Daredevil series is canon in the MCU and the hero’s story line is picking up where the original series ended. In the Netflix series, Daredevil had to abandon his red and black suit after a replica was worn by Benjamin Poindexter, a.k.a Bullseye, to attack the New York Bulletin and tarnish the hero’s reputation. So, in order to separate himself from the imposter, Daredevil is seeking a new suit in a different color, one that he does wear in the comics though.

While all of that is something that fans can wrap their heads around, ending Episode 5 of She-Hulk at that supposed cliffhanger was quite underwhelming for many reasons. When rumors of Cox’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home started to swirl online, fans were truly excited to see Daredevil enter the MCU. Cox repeatedly lied about his role in the film, even after leaked photographs showed him in a scene with Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, and Jon Favreau. Despite the fact that fans were entirely convinced that Cox was a part of the film, his appearance on the big screen led to theater crowds erupting in cheers around the world. The same cannot be said for She-Hulk, at least not yet.

With She-Hulk, the studio tried to leverage the character’s popularity to promote the series. His appearance was publicized and used as a part of the marketing for the show to a large extent, which led to the big reveal in Episode 5 feeling not so special. Fans already know that Daredevil is in the show, so why waste time in creating suspense or acting like it would be shocking for them to see his yellow helmet show up in the Drip Broker’s shop. In fact, it only makes fans wonder if the studio should have kept Daredevil’s appearance a secret, unless of course a bigger surprise is in store.

So far, She-Hulk has included multiple cameos, which have been quite disappointing thus far. Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky, a.k.a. Abomination, returned to the MCU after his last stint in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and a short cameo in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He was supposedly reformed, and now has “seven soulmates that [he] met through the prison pen pal program.” Benedict Wong’s Sorcerer Supreme also made an appearance, only to befriend an intoxicated Madisynn and watch The Sopranos together.

Megan Thee Stallion also made a celebrity cameo as herself in Episode 3, and ended up twerking with She-Hulk. All of these cameos have fans worried about Daredevil’s involvement in the show, with many wondering whether all the character development that the Netflix show worked on will be lost in just one episode of She-Hulk. The show has transformed itself into a sitcom, and it doesn’t seem like the right fit for a character like Daredevil. It remains to be seen how Daredevil’s first official appearance in the MCU will be tackled, but either way, his involvement in She-Hulk should have been kept under wraps to have the right effect on fans.

She-Hulk is streaming on Disney Plus.
