In a little over a month, Marvel Studios' next film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere in theaters, officially introducing the first Asian lead superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio is now picking up the pace on marketing the project and has released a new teaser trailer that offers fans a closer look at the powerful Ten Rings.

The minute-long trailer, which was posted on the studio’s social media channels, shows Shang-Chi coming face-to-face with his father The Mandarin, a character whom Marvel fans have been waiting to see on the big screen for a few years now. The entire preview is focused on the Ten Rings and whether the titular character will give in to his fate or fight to write his own path.

The Shang-Chi trailer begins with a shirtless Simu Liu hoping for a “normal life” while clearly preparing to fight an opponent in what looks like an MMA cage. Fans are then offered a look at the rings worn by The Mandarin, which seem to have given his “family legendary powers.” However, it is now Shang-Chi's turn to carry them, only if he is strong enough, of course. It does seem like he isn’t interested in the role, as is revealed in the closing shot of the trailer when the two characters seemingly go up against each other in an epic showdown.

The Shang-Chi trailer also offers a more extensive look at the action and stunts in the upcoming film. One of the scenes that fans have seen glimpses of before is Liu’s Shang-Chi fighting it out with a bunch of goons on a bus. The new trailer offers a closer look at this scene, which is a fast-paced action sequence that is reminiscent of several Jackie Chan films. There is also a great slow-motion shot of the hero escaping in the nick of time as the entire vehicle falls apart around him.

It has previously been revealed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will focus on the hero’s journey of confronting his past, which includes facing his father, played by Tony Leung. The cast also includes Awkwafina as Katy, Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan, and Meng'er Zhang as Xialing, among others.

There will also be some special appearances, which will prove to be a treat for Marvel fans. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Abomination will appear in Shang-Chi while Benedict Wong will reprise his MCU role of Wong.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere in theaters on September 3, 2021.
