The Game Awards is nearly a week away and details pertaining to its world premieres and surprise announcements are tight-lipped. However, there has been information shared lately about the show's primary purpose, the games and individuals up for respective awards.

The Game Awards' announced nominees have divided fans who would have preferred to see many other titles make it onto particular awards lists. But aside from games themselves, Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards has begun sharing the presenters and performers making an appearance this year that further blurry the divide between actors from films and people from the games industry.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Simu Liu has recently been announced as the latest notable figure to be presenting at The Game Awards this month. The Shang-Chi star, who grew up with Halo on Xbox, is not an obvious choice for a presenter due to many fans' inability to see how he correlates to the games industry. But The Game Awards' inclusive outreach has garnered exposure from many different venues beforehand, and celebrity guest appearances have become more natural and commonplace at the perennial awards show's ceremony.

While Liu's presence might not explicitly suggest that a game announcement will be made in connection to the actor, fans have curiously wondered whether an announcement could be in the works for his heroic Marvel counterpart being added as a DLC character in Marvel's Avengers. But with live-action film actors such as Gal Gadot and Brie Larson also having taken on presenter roles at last year's The Game Awards, it is likely that Liu has been offered the guest appearance in a comparable capacity.

If this news still surprises gamers, it is perhaps because The Game Awards is decidedly more mainstream than many fans would believe. Regardless, the musician Sting is also set to perform "What Could Have Been" from League of Legends' hugely popular Arcane series on Netflix, which continues the awards show's schedule of games-related musical acts between awards and announcements.

The Game Awards is always a momentous occasion for gamers eager to hear new world premiere announcements, with many fans still believing that more news about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's sequel will be shared there next week. Until Thursday, December 9, however, all rumors and speculation will be just that.

The Game Awards 2021 premiere on December 9, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. PST.
