Although the release of Marvel StudiosShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was delayed due to COVID-19, star Simu Liu has been active on social media and in interviews talking about the movie while also using his platform in other ways. In a recent interview, Liu talks about the stunt team, his charitable initiatives, and why Shang-Chi's action sequences will be so great.

Liu says that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is different from a lot of other Marvel properties because the titular hero never wears a mask or a suit, so when you see him fighting, it has to be him. Liu said to ExtraTV, "I think that as wonderful and as advanced as our technology is today in delivering some really jaw-dropping visuals, the human eye is always going to be able to tell the difference between something that is tactile and real, and something that was generated by a computer and something that's digital."

Liu continues by saying, "I think we took an enormous amount of pride in having these action sequences that were able to really give that Marvel sense of scope and scale but also, you know, be that real, that tactile, that you feel every single hit. And um, I think that we've really managed to create some of the best action sequences in the MCU, but also, I think it's going to be up there in terms of all movies. I can't wait for people to see it." While he did as many of his own stunts as he could, Liu goes on to give credit to the incredible stunt team on Shang-Chi. In the comics, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist who trained under his father, Fu Manchu, since infancy. While he is traditionally depicted as a human with no superpowers, Shang-Chi is so proficient in multiple wushu styles that he has been able to beat numerous superpowered individuals. While Marvel Studios' take on the character will include a few differences from the source material (this film's version appears to be the son of the Mandarin instead of Fu Manchu, for instance), it seems Shang-Chi's history of training since childhood will remain intact.

Since being cast as Shang-Chi, Liu has tried to take this opportunity to use the platform he has been given to do good. In this interview, he talks about the #StayStrongCampaign. Liu partnered with the California Milk Processor Board and the charity No Kid Hungry to help attack the issue of child hunger in California. The campaign aims to help compromised families and children who are going hungry, especially in the wake of the pandemic.

Liu explains how to participate in the campaign, saying, "For every hashtag StayStrongTogether that is posted, or shared, or commented that mentions GotMilk, and also tags two friends to join the movement, one dollar will go towards the one million meals goal." Liu kicked things off with a video of himself crushing an egg with his bare bicep on his Instagram. He encourages other people to participate in their own ways, saying he is happy to have a platform to affect real change in the world.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theatres later this year. With the release, along with delivering amazing fight sequences, Liu will have even more opportunities to use his platform for good and to affect change, both in and out of the MCU.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theatres on September 3, 2021.
