The highly-anticipated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been heavily promoted by Marvel Studios in the past month, and one angle that is constantly brought up is that of family. Shang-Chi reunites with his father Wenwu, and the film explores their relationship and the struggles that come with it. But, while the on-screen relationship was being filmed, another one involving Meng’er Zhang was formed on the sets.

Zhang, who portrays the role of Xialing in Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, found love on the set of the film and even got married to the film’s action designer Yung Lee during production. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Zhang revealed how she met Lee and their relationship was formed.

“I was cast single, and wrapped married,” Zhang is heard saying in the interview. As it turns out, the two met on the set of Shang-Chi, but due to their busy schedules, they were unable to host a large wedding party. However, their Shang-Chi family had their backs and the production crew planned a big party to celebrate their union.

Actor Simu Liu, who plays the lead role of Shang-Chi in the upcoming Marvel film, took the couple to Disneyland as a wedding present. He even gifted Zhang an action figure of her Shang-Chi character Xialing, which she was seen holding during her interview with ComicBook.com. Co-star Awkwafina, portraying the role of Katy in the film, booked a venue for the entire cast and crew to throw one big karaoke party. Seems like they all had a lot of fun, as Zhang reveals that “everyone sang and lost their voices” the next day.

Zhang is grateful for the people she has met through her work on Shang-Chi, as she believes they have become “like family” to her. Celebrating their wedding and relationship together, their bond only grew stronger. It seems like her rapport with Liu and Awkwafina is great, as was visible in the previously released featurettes by Marvel.

One featurette has the three stars answering questions that help fans learn more about their characters in Shang-Chi, whereas the second featurette had them rating the merchandise of the film. It remains to be seen how great their chemistry will be on screen.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theaters on September 3, 2021.
