News of a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings recently broke and fans of one of the year’s most popular films have been excited ever since. It was only natural for actor Simu Liu, who is known for being extremely active on social media, to express his views regarding the sequel, and it was the perfect reaction.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton signed a multi-year deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective and will be working on the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, among other projects. The first Asian-led superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2021, and it wasn’t surprising for fans to hear that the story would be carried forward. But, Liu had a message for the haters, just in case.

While sharing the news of Cretton’s deal and the Shang-Chi sequel on his Twitter account, Liu wrote, “Flopped so hard we got a sequel!!” It was his way of poking fun at all the critics and keyboard warriors who have been criticizing the film. The actor consistently uses a cheeky tone in his tweets and responses, especially when it is related to Shang-Chi. It all began when Liu posed a question to Marvel Studios and tweeted, “Ok @Marvel, are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi.”

This isn’t the first time that Liu has addressed Shang-Chi's critics, too. In September, after the film’s initial release in theatres, Liu had posted a stock photo of himself on Twitter, in which he seemed to be sharing a joke with two other individuals. The caption read, “Me laughing at the people who thought we’d flop.” While the film has been mostly appreciated, Liu seems to be ready to call out those who thought the movie would fail at the box office.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has earned $432 million from screenings around the world and is the highest-grossing film in the U.S. In addition to Liu, Shang-Chi consisted of a mainly Asian cast, a fact that has been appreciated by fans globally because it brought diversity into the MCU along with cultural representation. The star-studded roster included Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, and Tony Leung.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is streaming on Disney Plus.
