Shaggy Rogers from the Scooby Doo cartoon series is finally getting the chance to prove himself in a fight. It may not be a full roster inclusion in Mortal Kombat 11 like some fans have wanted, but it's the best that can be managed in a world complicated by licensing contracts. Thanks to a PC mod, Shaggy has been added to the recently released anime fighting game Jump Force as a fully playable and voiced fighter with a custom, high-quality model.
Game modder BeatzYT3 and character artist vaanrose partnered to bring Shaggy to life. vaanrose custom built Shaggy's model with Zbrush, Marmoset, and PhotoShop. BeatzYT3 created Shaggy's rigging and customized vaanrose's model with materials and voicing, bringing the character to life in Jump Force. The Shaggy mod is available to download now in beta form for those interested in experimenting with modding on their PC version of Jump Force.
Shaggy is technically a replacement mod for another character in-game, so his gameplay is quite literally Vegeta's. That should explain why Shaggy's model is wearing Vegeta's oversized gloves, and also why Shaggy can go Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (or Super Saiyan Blue for short). It's a fun combination, because not only do fans get to see Shaggy fighting with the strongest anime characters around, but also what a Scooby Doo/Dragon Ball Z crossover episode might feel like. Shaggy performing a Final Flash is something to see.
For the time being, Shaggy's Jump Force model is a bit unfinished. BeatzYT3 notes that he doesn't have experience with animation morphers, meaning that while Shaggy can use all of Vegeta's animations his face isn't able to move. So while the other characters in Jump Force have full facial animation to go along with their voicing, Shaggy only has the one face.
If the mod proves popular, there's always a chance it can be improved. At this point, the Shaggy meme has grown to a height that anything is possible. If a mod can become significantly popular then maybe the Shaggy license could be sold to a fighting game developer, too.
Jump Force is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
