Just two weeks after the huge PlayStation 5 event, Nintendo held its own. On September 23rd, 2021, a plethora of new titles were announced and showcased during a Nintendo Direct, including a new Kirby game, a look at Bayonetta 3, and footage of Splatoon 3. While these larger titles primarily stole the spotlight, many fans of the original Shadowrun titles were pleased to see that Shadowrun Trilogy will be released on Nintendo Switch.

Shadowrun Trilogy is an RPG that features tactical turn-based combat and immersive branching narratives. Shadowrun was initially a science fantasy tabletop game when it was created in 1989, but it was ultimately adapted into a videogame in 1993.

Shadowrun Trilogy is being published by Paradox Interactive for the Nintendo Switch, with the collection being developed by Harebrained Schemes. It will consist of Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall Director’s Cut, and Shadowrun Hong Kong Extended Edition. As can be inferred from the title, Shadowrun Dragonfall Director’s Cut and Shadowrun Hong Kong Extended Edition are both upgrades to the original titles. These upgrades includes a bonus campaign for Shadowrun Hong Kong and multiple story missions for Shadowrun Dragonfall, among other content.

Shadowrun trilogy has been previously well-received on PC, with favorable reviews from critics and users alike. Although it wasn’t confirmed what types of changes or upgrades the Nintendo Switch trilogy will have, the trailer that was showcased appears to have a slightly higher resolution.

Shadowrun Trilogy coming to the Nintendo Switch is a potentially large move for the franchise, as it can be introduced a new group of players that never experienced the game on PC or mobile. The game has a stylish cyberpunk aesthetic to it that could keep players on the Nintendo Switch interested, with all the content the trilogy is providing sure to keep them occupied for a while. If upgrades are announced for the Shadowrun Trilogy, this could also bring in fans of the original, as they may be interested in experiencing the game on the go.

As it stands, it is unclear if Shadowrun Trilogy will actually receive an upgrade, which could be problematic when porting it over to the Nintendo Switch. Although the original still looks sharp, the text and small details of the trilogy could be lost while the Nintendo Switch is in handheld mode. While docked, the details could be potentially muddied if not given a slight visual boost. If the trailer is any indication of the quality of this version, however, gamer won’t have to worry about either of these two issues.

Shadowrun Trilogy is set to release in 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
