The ominous teaser trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ original, Severance, gives a whole new meaning to work and home life balance. This first-look preview provides a glimpse into the impact of having one’s professional and personal life surgically divided.

Apple TV+' Severance takes place at a company called Lumen Industries, which uses a severance procedure on its employees to split their work and non-work memories. Directed by Ben Stiller (2008's Tropic Thunder) and Aoife McArdle, this trailer immediately has a sense of deception and danger, which informs the audience that this experiment will most likely not produce any good results. Within the trailer, the four participants in the scheme appear more like guinea pigs in a lab than willing volunteers, creating the eager questions of how they became a part of severance and what they will have to do to escape.

This official teaser trailer for Severance instantly creates a sinister feeling. The participants are rigid and emotionless, like robots being controlled by an external force. Their statement to the camera in the beginning of the clip is riddled with a deep uncertainty, as if giving their consent means signing their lives away. The large white buildings aid this eerie atmosphere, as it produces the sense of a gloomy psychiatric hospital rather than an establishment that aims to do good. Initially, the idea of separating work and home life seems like one that could release a burden. However, the distress of the participants within the trailer reveals that this concept is nothing but disastrous. They are far away from civilization and more trapped than ever before.

Severance is set to be released on Apple TV+ and stars Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, John Turturro and Britt Lower. Being in the works since 2019, many are excited to watch this thriller that appears as if it will provide plenty of twists, excitements, and shocks to capture the audience. This first teaser trailer already raises numerous questions and everybody is ready for the answers.

Severance appears to have the makings for a enthralling series with a well-known cast, directors, and an original plot line. With Scott (also known for Big Little Lies) cast in the lead role for Severance, it will be interesting to see how this comedy actor takes on his character in this serious thriller.

This new series has an embedded sense of danger and ambiguity that will hold the attention of its audience. While there have been many sci-fi thrillers over the years, Severance gives a refreshed storyline that has the potential for something great.

Severance is set to be released on February 18, 2022, on Apple TV+.
