Halo Infinite was always planned to release for PC, as well as the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. And with it currently scheduled to release this fall after its initial delay, Microsoft has confirmed that the PC version specifically will come with some very important features that will no doubt make PC players very happy.

Firstly, the game will offer multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. So, not only can players on the console and PC versions play matches with and against each other, but any progress made on one version can be carried over to the other, meaning players don't have to start over if they ever need to switch from console to PC or vice versa.

This addition is arguably something many would have expected for a game featuring multiplayer, especially nowadays with most other games offering it and it being such a popular feature that its absence can be outright confusing (case in point: Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance). But, it's good to see it officially confirmed.

Other key features for the PC version include ultrawide and super ultrawide screen support, triple keybinds, and a variety of advanced graphics options. There are apparently more features that haven't been mentioned but Microsoft writes that it has been working with the PC community to offer what it calls a premier experience.

It makes sense for Microsoft to heavily support Halo Infinite on PC like this. Since late 2019, it had been working diligently on bringing the mainline series of games to PC via The Master Chief Collection, with the entire collection now available. This leaves Halo 5: Guardians as the only mainline entry to not release on PC. The collection has even continued to receive content updates despite its completion.

This news was confirmed as part of a wider announcement concerning Microsoft's continued PC support. In a blog post written by Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, he writes about the importance of player choice and acknowledging that many PC players use multiple storefronts, which is why Microsoft has released titles on Steam.

As for Halo Infinite itself, while new information about the game has steadily been revealed, no new gameplay footage has been seen since the original debut. At the time, the reveal was received rather negatively, with many feeling underwhelmed with the gameplay shown and the visuals. That said, it remains a hotly anticipated game for 2021. Hopefully, Microsoft and 343 Industries will have something new to show at E3 this year, where Microsoft will be in attendance.

Halo Infinite is scheduled to release this fall for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
