Nickelodeon and Seth Rogen have teamed up to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Rogen reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be a CG animated film set for theatrical release in August 2023.In June 2021, Seth Rogen took to Twitter to announce his involvement in a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project. Rogen shared a page that looks like it was ripped out of any typical high school student's notebook and includes the August 2023 release date, along with a comment from Rogen that reads, "Leo takes notes like I used to." The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles page shows Leonardo is exploring mutations and questions about his identity, while also showcasing the humor the heroes in half-shells are famous for by including a mocking doodle of an adult with flies and a stench circling their head.RELATED: Halo Already Renewed for Season 2 Ahead Of March PremiereParamount Plus confirmed on Twitter that the reboot will be followed by a series of villain-focused Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films that will be exclusive to the streaming platform. Other than a title, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the fact that Rogen and Nickelodeon will produce it, little else is known about the reboot at this time. It is clear that Paramount Plus expects the new adaptation to be a success and has already announced the platform will stream villain-focused spinoffs on the heels of the theatrical release of the Rogen reboot. Fans of the ninja turtles still have a long wait before they can see what exactly Rogen and Nickelodeon have in mind for the popular heroes, and the history of Ninja Turtles adaptations is hit or miss.

The 2023 reboot is far from the first on-screen adaptation of the comic book heroes. The first film based on the reptilian foursome, released in 1990, launched a trilogy, which is loved by many fans but widely disliked by critics. More recently, in 2014, Michael Bay produced two TMNT films, which were widely panned by critics and fans alike. It remains to be seen if Rogen and Nickelodeon can make a Ninja Turtles film that pleases both of these camps.

Paramount Plus' tweet announcing the Rogen-led reboot is already receiving a lot of negative responses from fans. One Twitter user even went so far as to say they would have preferred another Bay TMNT film over a Rogen one, and many other replies shared that sentiment. Rogen has a lot of expectations to meet among Ninja Turtles fans.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on Paramount Plus on August 4, 2023.
