Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of 2019's most anticipated games, and with launch day quickly approaching, FromSoftware is giving fans a small glimpse into the story that players will discover. Previous trailers have mentioned the protagonist's master, but now fans can see the figure who is sure to play a pivotal role in the plot of the game as they embark through reimagined Sengoku-era Japan.

The trailer sets up the events for Sekiro and introduces The Owl, a powerful shinobi who takes Sekiro under his wing following a gruesome battle. This is the first real taste of backstory that FromSoftware has given fans, and it gives a little insight into the person that Sekiro is trying to find in the game.

The warriors shown in the battle seem like normal humans, which has left many fans wondering how the twisted and challenging bosses and enemies will be woven into the story. Perhaps things change as Sekiro trains and grows stronger, but fans will have to wait and see if their predictions are true.

While the trailer doesn't show off any flashy gameplay or combat, it definitely paints a better picture for what players can expect when they step into FromSoftware's version of Sengoku-era Japan. FromSoftware has a history of making incredibly rich, but very challenging, worlds for players to explore and Sekiro appears to be no different.

According to FromSoftware, Sekiro will be more challenging than the Dark Souls games. While it's certainly a big claim, some of the enemies that have been shown off so far seem formidable, so perhaps it's true. Even if it isn't quite as challenging as the rest of FromSoftware's catalog, Sekiro will certainly be a different experience than anything the developer has done up to this point.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is shaping up to be a stunning experience and hopefully it will live up to fan expectations. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are masterpieces to some gamers, so Sekiro has some big shoes to fill. Fans will just have to wait and see when the game launches late next month. Hopefully, FromSoftware will drop a couple more trailers to hold fans over while they wait.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches March 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
