About a couple of weeks ago, From Software declared that its forthcoming action-RPG Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice could provide potential players with a "more challenging" experience than any of the previous games in the developer’s stable of releases. Now, the project's director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has even gone so far to state that the studio's new game set in late-1500s Japan will be so demanding that players "will die a lot" while taking on the title.

This much was revealed during a recent interview held between Miyazaki and Eurogamer, with the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice director discussing the tone and core concept that From Software wanted for its new game. According to Miyazaki, the title will punish those who make mistakes, with the director explaining, "The intention is the player will die a lot. That is because of the concept of the ninja protagonist at its core; as a ninja you're a little less equipped than the average samurai or knight, you're always at death's door."

Most fans looking forward to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice expected the action-RPG to be difficult from the outset due to the game having been created by the same team behind such releases as Bloodborne and Darks Souls, but Miyazaki wants players to remember that it will contain its own unique experience. For instance, while resurrection is an option in Sekiro, From Software has emphasized that it won't be a feature that can be frequently employed. As explained by the director, resurrection will be limited, there will be a resource involved, and it will act as a means "to make death an opportunity to turn the tables."

Bearing all of this in mind, while it's too early to tell how well Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will play and just how taxing it will be to face off against its enemies, with From Software having had a stellar track record as of late, the new title at the very least holds loads of promise. Plus, with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice excluding any multiplayer, the developer will be able to focus the majority on its efforts in making the single-player campaign an unforgettable experience.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is currently scheduled to launch in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
