Over the last week or so there has been a debate surrounding From Software’s new game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and whether it needs an easy mode. Arguments were compelling on both sides, but given From Software’s track record with hard games, it’s unlikely any changes will be made. However, there isn’t stopping modders from implementing their own Sekiro easy mode.

Over on Nexus Mods, there is a new Sekiro mod that offers a wide range of options not currently available in the game. The mod includes support for ultra-widescreen monitors (21:9), more field of view (FOV) options, and a stat screen so players can track their deaths in the game. For the player that beat Sekiro without dying that last change will be useless, but for the rest of us it’s sure to be informative.

But the biggest part of the Sekiro mod is an easy mode, of sorts, whereby players can slow down the world while preserving their character’s speed. Essentially, enemies and bosses will move at half speed (or slower) and the player will be able to dodge and deflect easier.

Being able to control enemy speed is one of the suggestions players have made regarding a Sekiro easy mode, or even just accessibility options. Because the game is much faster paced than Dark Souls, players need to have pin point reaction time. A boss fight like Genichiro Ashina, for example, is extremely challenging at normal speed.

Of course, an easy mode mod for Sekiro and an actual easy mode are not the same. One requires the PC version and the willingness to mod the game, whereas console players must accept and try and complete Sekiro as is. And while an easy mode may not be in the cards, players will find ways to better beat bosses. For example there is a cheese for the Corrupted Monk boss fight that makes it very easy.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
