The Sega Dreamcast is getting a new game nearly 20 years after it was discontinued. The Sega Dreamcast failed for many reasons, critics say, such as the release of the PS2 and a poor lineup of games, but the console is something of a cult favorite and has many fans around the world.

PixelHeart, a video game publisher which releases titles for older consoles such as the Sega Dreamcast and current-generation consoles, has confirmed that Arcade Racing Legends will be available on Dreamcast this month. The release follows a successful crowdfunding campaign in which PixelHeart raised €68,025, nearly USD$80,000, for the game.

Arcade Racing Legends is an appropriate name for a game which PixelHeart says is a mix of classic arcade racers like bumpy taxi sim Crazy Taxi, the Sega Rally arcade machines, and the Dreamcast exclusive title Metropolis Street Racer. It features a career mode, a duel mode, and a time trial mode, there are also more than 15 cars to drive and six circuits such as city and desert.

While a huge number of game sales are now digital, PixelHeart has added in a few things, reminding physical game fans why they like having a hard copy so much. The package comes with the game, a manual, and a certificate of authenticity. The publisher says it's limited to 3,000 numbered copies.

The Dreamcast isn't one of the world's most popular games consoles but the release of Arcade Racing Legends does give fans another way to celebrate it this year. Figma has also confirmed it is releasing a line of mini Sega console replicas, also giving fans a way to decorate their homes with Sega Dreamcast figures and not just games.

Arcade Racing Legends will be released in August 2020 on Sega Dreamcast.
