A former Sega employee has shown off a rather amazing Dreamcast backpack that seems to have withstood the test of time. While the old Sega console itself may have fallen out of fashion with the arrival of the PlayStation 2, it's still celebrated as one of the greatest retro consoles to this day. Some dedicated fans are even hoping that a mini console like the Sega Genesis Mini will be released someday.

It's because of these loyalists that the Sega Dreamcast has such an incredible legacy even within Sega itself. This can be seen with merchandise such as hoodies, shirts, pins, and more that have been made for those who spent time with the console back in the day, or just wish to own a piece of Sega history. One gamer owns a unique item only given out to promote the Dreamcast back when it was still new.

Reddit user DonaldKey has posted a picture of what appears to be a normal black backpack, but the front is embroidered with the Sega Dreamcast logo and artwork of Sonic the Hedgehog in a pose from the box art of Sonic Adventure. DonaldKey states in the post that he received the backpack while working at Sega when the console was still around, but he has no idea how he got it.

The backpack is an interesting collector's item as it is roughly twenty years old and still holding up if DonaldKey's picture is recent. In addition, bags like the one pictured above aren't exactly easy to find these days. When asked further questions about the backpack, the owner said it was a "marketing item that was handed out," which means it most likely wasn't given to him as a reward, but instead because there was extra after the promotion.

Still, no matter how DonaldKey got his Sega Dreamcast backpack, other fans in the comments think the bag looks cool and nostalgic, as it certainly brings back memories of the early 2000s from both the use of Dreamcast branding and the style of the bag in question. It's a bit strange to think that such a simplistic bag might be a valuable collector's item today, but most retro collectibles tend to fetch a pretty penny. After all, Pokemon cards have consistently smashed world records as they keep going up in value and price, so it's understandable that Donaldkey's bag might be worth more these days.

While some Sega Dreamcast fans might not be able to snag this backpack for themselves rather easily, 2023 still has plenty of surprises to come for retro gaming fans. Sega is currently teasing the revival of an old Dreamcast favorite sometime in February, so loyalists should keep their eyes peeled.
