Nowadays, Sega is probably best known for its Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, and Persona franchises (that last one being thanks to it acquiring Atlus). But those who grew up in the 90s will know that Sega has several other game series that, despite being beloved by certain fans, have remained dormant for years. Sega itself certainly hasn't forgotten them and, in fact, the company may actually revive some of them in the future.

Recently, Sega published a presentation of its financial results for the last fiscal year, something a lot of other companies have been doing as of late, like Capcom and Ubisoft. While it mostly covers how the company has performed throughout 2020 and 2021, what may most interest fans comes in a slide labelled Utilization of IP Assets.

The slide provides examples of not just active IPs but also plenty of past and dormant ones, including the likes of Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Nights, and much more. The slide notes that Sega is examining which IPs it should utilize, with mentions of HD remasters, remakes, and reboots underneath. While this doesn't necessarily confirm anything, it does mean there's a possibility some of these dormant franchises could be revived. At the very least, even a simple remaster could go down well with fans of these franchises.

There may already be evidence of a Virtua Fighter revival of some kind in the future. Sega teased some sort of esports project involving the series back in September, and then a Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown was spotted on the Korean ratings board. It may not be an entirely new game, but it does sound like a new iteration of the last entry in the series.

The presentation also mentions something that Sega refers to as a Super Game. What that means is anyone's guess, but the presentation does provide some details. Namely, that said Super Game is an FPS in development at Sega's European studio and is aiming for a 2026 release date. Given how far away that is, we probably shouldn't expect to hear anything else about it for a few more years.

The rest of the year is already expected to be a big one for Sega. 2021 marks Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary and while a sequel to the live-action movie and a Netflix series are in the works, Sega has yet to announce any new games for this year. With Sega attending E3 next month, fans are hopeful that something will be revealed there, like the rumored Sonic Colors remaster.
