When Section 8 was initially unveiled by developers TimeGate Studios back in 2007, it was announced as coming to PC, XBOX 360, and PS3. However, when the game hit store shelves in September of 2009, the PS3 version was conspicuously absent. This led many to assume that the PS3 version had been canceled.

For those versions that did arrive, however, reception was mixed. The game was solid, and had all the makings of a hit, but suffered from an acute case of bad timing: Section 8 had launched a mere three weeks before Halo 3: ODST. For any multiplayer game to survive for any length of time, it must establish player-commitment, and XBOX 360 owners already had their sights fixed firmly on the Halo title they were going to buy a mere 21 days later.

Now, IGN Australia have received word from TimeGate Interactive stating that the PS3 version is still very much alive and scheduled for release, although the actual date remains a mystery.

I'm curious to see how well the PS3 version does at retailers when it does get released. Mutliplayer FPS' aren't as intrinsic a life-force on the PS3 as they are on the PC and XBOX 360, and yet when it does arrive it will do so in the wake of excellent multiplayer FPS titles that have already gained dedicated throngs of players, namely MAG and Modern Warfare 2. Since this is the PS3, there is no Halo title to contend with, imminent or otherwise. So I see very little standing in the way of its success. All they need to do is sprinkle some exclusive additional content on top to sweeten the deal and it should do just fine.
