Ever since it was announced that the beloved SNES classic Secret of Mana would be getting a remake, JRPG fans have been caught up in a wave of nostalgic anticipation. While there is still some time before gamers can get their hands on the game, it is certainly coming along very nicely based on some newly-revealed gameplay footage.

During the Tokyo Game Show 2017, Square Enix pulled the curtain back on the upcoming Secret of Mana remake by revealing some new single-player and local multiplayer gameplay footage that showcases some brand new features. While the JRPG is getting a modern makeover in terms of visuals, the core single-player gameplay experience remains incredibly faithful to the original SNES release.

Having said that, the new single-player footage reveals that the remake will feature some brand-new interactions between the main character Randi and various other NPCs that weren’t present in the original game. As for why these new character interactions were added, Square Enix states that it doubles as a way for players to deepen their bond with the various characters, as well as offering up a new experience for seasoned Secret of Mana players.

The new gameplay footage comes in at the 30:03 mark.

In addition to Secret of Mana‘s single-player, brand new footage of the remake’s local multiplayer mode was also shown off. While online co-op remains out of the question, the remake will allow up to three players to play together at the same time, a feature that was also present in the original SNES release and has been carried over. All in all, the gameplay will feel familiar to those who have played the SNES release, but the remake will also feature some new elements not found in the original game.

Players will finally get the chance to hear Randi, Primm, Popoi, and many characters speak for the first time thanks to the addition of full voice acting, though gamers will have the option of turning off voices in favor of subtitles for a more authentic experience. Voices won’t be the only new thing that fans will hear though as the remake will also feature a newly arranged version of the Secret of Mana soundtrack, something that Square Enix states will pay tribute to the original.

By combining some new features with a gameplay experience that’s faithful to the original release, it certainly appears that the Secret of Mana remake will offer up something that will please long-time fans. The remake may have a lot to live up to given that the original game is regularly named as one of the greatest JRPGs ever, but if this new gameplay footage is anything to go by, it certainly looks like fans are in for a treat come 2018.

Secret of Mana releases on February 15, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Vita.
