Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are eagerly waiting for the studio’s next television series Secret Invasion. Even though the first trailer has been released, the plot is shrouded in mystery, and not a lot is known about the fate of Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. Cobie Smulders, who portrays the role of Maria Hill in the MCU, has offered fans some interesting details about the upcoming series, which is bound to build the hype.Fury and Hill's journeys in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been long, and sometimes rather confusing. Secret Invasion will likely fill any gaps in their timeline and offer answers to some burning fan questions about how long Talos and Soren were impersonating the two former S.H.I.E.L.D agents. In Smulders' words, the series is going to take a “very different tone,” from their previous appearances, and possibly shed light on their extremely important, and often ignored, roles in the MCU.RELATED: Marvel's Secret Invasion Is Being Described As A 'Crossover Event Series'Secret Invasion will offer a whole different take on both these characters. When speaking to TVLine.com, Smulders revealed that the series “sets [Jackson's] character up in a really interesting way,” something that she has always wanted to see since he was first introduced in the MCU. As far as her own character is concerned, “it’s the most depth” she has been able to show of Hill. She praised the MCU television series because they give fans an opportunity to “get the backstories of these characters,” to the extent where they can get an insight into their minds and find out about “the conversations when they are just sitting around and drinking coffee.”[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/TVLine/status/1579878201785991168[/EMBED_TWITTER]As is with any Marvel Studios project, Smulders was tight-lipped about the plot of the Secret Invasion and “where things go from here.” All she does promise is that a lot happens in the six-episode series that she “can’t talk about, or [doesn't] have the ability to understand.” When Secret Invasion was compared to The Thing or Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Smulders added, "[It's] really unsettling, yeah, it's a really fascinating concept, and I think that the way that they portray it and the twist and turns that they take people on is going to be really worth it and really exciting."Secret Invasion is said to be inspired by the comic book story of the same name, which follows the story of the shape-shifting Skrulls invading Earth and taking the place of some of the biggest superheroes. How the series plans to execute that remains to be seen, especially considering how Fury was last seen taking a vacation on a Skrull flagship in space.Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in 2023.MORE: Deadpool 3: 12 Comic Storylines The Sequel Should Pull FromSource: TVLine.com/Twitter
