It's no secret that video game file sizes have been ballooning out of control. With the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, those that want to expand their storage need to invest in storage expansion cards from Seagate. These cards plug in to the back of Xbox consoles and look similar to memory cards, allowing players to easily increase the storage capacity of their consoles. Since the Xbox Series X launched, there's been a 1TB Seagate storage expansion card option for Xbox consoles, but soon users will have two more options available.

These new Xbox Series X and S Seagate storage expansion cards will offer a 512 GB expansion and a staggering 2 TB expansion. The former will launch at some point in the middle of November for $139.99, almost half the cost of a new Xbox Series S console. Meanwhile, the 2 TB Seagate storage expansion card for Xbox will cost a whopping $399.99, which is more than the price of an Xbox Series S console and costs nearly as much as an Xbox Series X. Anyone interested can expect to find the 2 TB Seagate storage expansion card at some point in early December.

Video game file sizes are likely to grow even larger as the generation goes on, as games become more complicated and start using up more space. This is especially true for live service games like the annual Call of Duty titles, and so many gamers will likely feel the need to expand their console's storage, which can clearly get expensive. A cheaper option is to store the games on an external hard drive and transfer them to the Xbox Series X internal storage when one wants to use them, though that's not a great solution for everyone.

Xbox Series X Seagate Storage Expansion Cards

  • 512 GB (Mid-November) - $139.99
  • 1 TB (Available Now) - $219.99
  • 2 TB (Early December) - $399.99

Ultimately, it seems that those that really want to avoid having to re-download games on their Xbox Series X and S consoles will have to bite the bullet and invest in one of these storage expansion options. The 1 TB solution is still pretty expensive, but it will likely get the job done for most gamers. It should be enough space to hold multiple big file size, live service games and a number of other titles as well.

Those that use Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service may also want to purchase a Seagate storage expansion card so they can get the most out of their subscription. For now, some may be able to work with their consoles' internal storage, but it seems safe to say that many gamers will be looking to expand as soon as they can.
