Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer video game about pirates that was released in March 2018. In the game, there are trading companies that the players work for to earn rewards (in exchange for Commendations). Each is dedicated to a specific type of content such as Treasure, Voyages, and Quests. There are eight factions: Gold Hoarders, Merchant Alliance, Reaper's Bones, The Hunter's Call, Sea Dogs, Athena's Fortune, Bilge Rats, and...the Order of Souls.

This trading company was founded by a group of conjurers and seers to reclaim Bounty Skulls (cursed remains of former pirates). The player will know the Order of Souls is in town (on the Outpost) by the purple tent; inside, a Madame will greet adventurers, sending them on Bounty Voyages in exchange for Gold and Reputation.

10 The Order Of Souls Is Short-Staffed

The initial reasoning behind the formation of the Order of Souls was to study evil(ness) and learn its secrets by reading the minds of those who have fallen. One skull means one read, as the members are magical beings capable of doing so (even those who are alive still). Yet all this time, they have learned nothing.

That's right, some people in the game say the Order of Souls has not discovered a single secret so far. This might be because there are not many members of the Order of Souls; that is why they hire so many adventurers to do their bidding.

9 The Order Of Souls Draw Power From The Kraken

Sea Of Thieves The Kraken

There is some logic behind the black marking on the Order of Souls members' faces. It is because they use the ink of the Kraken for their supernatural insight, seeing what the future holds.

Unfortunately, players cannot tap into this power themselves. While the Kraken, a huge squid that appears during a World Event in the Open Ocean and attacks any ship nearby, will turn the deep blue sea black as night with loads of ink, the ink itself is unobtainable. The Order of Souls must be scooping it up into bottles and barrels because the Kraken only drops some of its meat upon defeat (in addition to Treasure Chests, Trinkets, Message in a Bottle, etc.).

8 The Order Of Souls Is Everywhere You Go

Sea Of Thieves Order Of Souls Outpost

In Sea of Thieves, there are island towns filled with many different characters and services called Outposts. There are seven of them, each containing shops and representatives from Trading Companies. So, naturally, a representative from the Order Of Souls, referred to as a Madame, is there too on each Outpost.

At the Ancient Spire Outpost, the player will find Madame Olwen. At the Plunder Outpost, the player will find Madame Olivia. At the Dagger Tooth Outpost, the player will find Madame Oprah. At the Galleon's Grave Outpost, the player will find Madame Oksana, At the Sanctuary Outpost, the player will find Madame Olive. At the Golden Sands Outpost, the player will find Madame Olga. At the Morrow's Peak Outposts, the player will find Madame Oya. (Yes, all the Madames' names start with an "O.")

7 The Order Of Souls Offers Several Services

If the player approaches the Madame of the Order of Souls in any Outpost, she will offer them a variety of services.

In exchange for Cursed Bounty Skulls or Mermaid Gems, she will give the player Gold and Reputation. If the Order of Souls' Emissary Flag is raised, which the player may purchase, she will also reward Emissary Value. The player is also able to obtain Promotions and Cosmetics — tankards and lanterns.

Not only that, if the player earns enough Reputation and gets promoted (and has the flag raised), they will be able to wear the mystical Order of Souls Costume and deck their ship out with the skeleton-themed Order of Souls Set.

6 The Order Of Souls Sends Players On Bounty Hunts

When doing missions for the Order of Souls, players will need to be prepared to fight, fight, fight. The Madame will send players on Bounty Voyages, which have them searching for Skeleton Captains. More specifically, their head...well, skull. That's the item in question for these quests. Kill the already-dead monster, take its dome, and deliver it back to the Order of Souls. Be careful though, these cursed creatures are well-protected by their Skeletal Crew.

Also, players may venture out into The Devil's Roar for more difficult (Ashen) excursions by talking to Madame Oya at the Morrow's Peak Outpost.

5 The Order Of Souls Sends Players On Ghost Hunts

Once the player is promoted to Rank 25, the Order of Souls will start offering them Ghost Ship Voyages. These quests have the player sail out to an island swarming with a terrifying fleet of enemy Ghost Ships. After enough vessels are defeated, the boss (or, the Captain) comes out. If the player manages to sink the Captain and retrieve the Skull of the Damned, they must take it back to the Madame for some decent booty (Gold and Reputation).

4 From Measly Follower To Grand Magus

If desired, the player can truly represent the Order of Souls by becoming an Emissary. As an Emissary, they can hoist the flags of the Order of Souls on their ship. These flags are purple and green.

However, if a ship representing the Order of Souls is sunk or scuttled, the Emissary Flag is lost as well. A broken version will float to the surface of the water where the demolition took place and can be snatched up by enemies. They can then sell the stolen Broken Emissary Flag to The Servant of the Flame, who is found at The Reaper's Hideout.

1 The Order Of Souls Motto

Sea Of Thieves Order Of Souls Orb

The motto of the Order of Souls is "Omnes in servitium animarum," which in Latin means "All in the service of Souls."

Members of the Order of Souls commune with the dead daily to uncover their secrets and discover omens, with the overall goal of exploring the mysteries in Sea of Thieves. The Order of Souls is one of the three original Trading Companies, alongside the Gold Hoarders and Merchant Alliance. While certainly the weirdest of the bunch, maybe someday their voodoo taboo will pay off and the truth will be revealed.
