After a rough start at launch, Sea of Thieves has been firing on all cylinders as of late. Thanks to continued updates, new content, and a move to seasonal content, Sea of Thieves has been enjoying a resurgence with players on Xbox and PC. In fact, Rare has even teased that 2022 could be the biggest year yet for Sea of Thieves with the amount of content being planned behind the scenes, which includes plenty of new PvE style activities as well.

The push for PvE content really began last year when Rare and Disney announced a special Tall Tales expansion called A Pirate's Life, which combined characters and other elements from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. This year, Sea of Thieves is getting an influx of more character and lore-focused content through Adventures and Mysteries like Forts of the Forgotten. However, Rare has even bigger plans in mind, giving players a new look at a brand-new Athena's Fortune Voyage for Pirate Legends launching on April 21.

Known as Legend of the Veil, this Voyage will have players finally interacting with the Ancients, a civilization that has been referenced and touched on throughout the past inside the game's various bits of lore. Legend of the Veil features three chapters prior to getting to the finale, and Rare hopes to keep players coming back through the use of dynamic missions. Each time a crew selects Legend of the Veil, the first two mission chapters will be mixed between combat and puzzles while the third remains the cinematic set piece finale.

The puzzle missions feature three different challenges in Sea of Thieves. The first is the traditional 'X' marks the spot style treasure hunting, though Pirate Legends will find that the maps are more zoomed in, making it a bit more difficult to discern which island the map is pointing to. Alternatively, players could find a hand drawn image of a spot on an island with a clue as to where to look. Finally, players will see an island with every Ancient symbol marked down, except that one of them will be wrong, indicating that the treasure is located there.

Rare has also teased that players will be visiting Shipwreck Graveyards during the Legend of the Veil where they'll be hunting down the captain's key to find the Veilstone, though treasure will also be in abundance in addition to danger. Players will also be taking on haunted islands, where the mysterious NPC Belle will be waiting to help solve the islands mysteries.

In the deep dive video, Rare also revealed a bit of information on the showpiece finale mission which features a massive tornado in the middle of the ocean with phantom ships battling under it. Players will be navigating through this impressive weather phenomenon, though players will also be able to dynamically destroy parts of the environment, like the Ghost Garrison, during this finale as well. This takes that player impact element from Adventures like Shrouded Isles and kicks things up a notch.

Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
