As one of the biggest Microsoft exclusives of 2018 and serving as a big push for Xbox Game Pass, there is a lot riding on Sea of Thieves. Unfortunately, the game's launch has not been a smooth one, with many people flat-out unable to play the game at the time of this writing.

The server issues for Sea of Thieves have been persistent throughout the past day. Many players have been unable stay connected to their online sessions, and others haven't been able to play at all. Rare is working on fixes for these problems, and even temporarily suspended the ability of new players to join the game to alleviate some of the issues.

As it stands, Rare has yet to announce a specific time players can expect these issues with Sea of Thieves to be completely resolved. Hopefully fans don't have to wait too much longer for Sea of Thieves to have stable servers, as some have already been waiting years for the game only to have it not function on launch day.

Of course, with an online-focused game like Sea of Thieves, launch day issues are to be expected. It's hard to recall a game with primarily online functionality that launched without any issues to speak of, so it's not surprising that Sea of Thieves is struggling a bit. That being said, it seems as though Rare didn't expect the game's server issues to be as severe as they are.

It's unclear what is causing the ongoing server issues with Sea of Thieves, but maybe we'll find out once Rare is done fixing the game. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if the ambitious open world co-op pirate game is able to overcome these launch day issues and become a favorite among gamers or if its early problems hold it back.

Sea of Thieves is available now for PC and Xbox One.
