Xbox One exclusive Sea of Thieves will release later this month and Xbox is looking to promote the launch of the pirate game with a real-life quest for golden bananas. It's all in the spirit of Sea of Thieves' pirate adventure theme and gameplay.

The Quest for the Golden Bananas is still a bit of a mystery, but you can watch the teaser video for it below, and find out more on Xbox's special site for the promotion.

The contest starts on March 19, the day before the launch of Sea of Thieves. The first step entails a hunt for clues on The Quest for the Golden Bananas website. A total of 15 clues will be released on the site every 3-4 hours over the course of three days.

Participants will have to search out the clues, solve the riddles, and enter an answer on a special Passage webpage. The fastest team to find the clues, complete the riddle, and submit their answer first in each region will be invited to an "ultimate test" where one team will be able to win actual solid gold bananas. For those that are curious, the banana became a meme after footage of the game showed a player character consuming one with peel intact.

It's not exactly clear what that final step will entail, but it sounds like some sort of real-life trip to have a chance at winning. Xbox will surely detail more as time goes on and the promotion gets closer. At this time, there are no restrictions for participating in The Quest for the Golden Bananas listed on the website.

There are four golden bananas shown in the video, labeled as 150 grams of gold. With the current price of gold as of the time of this writing, that equals a little over $25,000 worth of gold.

Sea of Thieves is the latest game from Rare, and sets players off on an online pirate adventure where they can pilot a pirate ship and conduct battles on land and sea with other players and AI while searching out treasure and "becoming pirate legend."

Sea of Thieves releases March 20, 2018 on PC and sXbox One.
