The only real downside to Sea of Thieves’ recent 2022 preview event, showcasing Sea Forts, Adventures, Mysteries, and more, is that fans will have to wait until Season 6’s launch in March. Everything thus far suggests that the wait will be worth it, but it is a wait nonetheless. However, that doesn’t mean Rare doesn’t have anything for its Sea of Thieves players.

Sea of Thieves’ first Community Day (of many) begins tomorrow, January 30th. Rare has quite a few things planned for it, ranging from tweeting a hashtag to raise the Community Emissary Grade and increase the reward multiplier in-game, Renown will be boosted, get to bag an exclusive event Season Five Community Day flag, the Gilded Phoenix Tankard will become a Twitch drop, and more.

It’s fitting that the first Community Day, a special in-game and out-of-game holiday designed to celebrate players, takes place not long after Sea of Thieves announced Adventures—content that is focused on community decision-making. Because of these parallels, Game Rant asked Sea of Thieves creative director Mike Chapman and executive producer Joe Neate about their role in the grand scheme of things.

Neate then shared an anecdote detailing how Sea of Thieves’ Community Day came to be, citing the Rare Head of Community Christina as the one who came up with the idea and pitched it on a call. Rare already does this by sharing Sea of Thieves screenshots from players and the like, but it seems the company wanted to take it a step further. As Neate said, “It's about celebrating the community, and creating a day that's specifically for them, and then doing that on a regular basis.”

Neate also expressed how much he loves seeing that passion, even from within the Sea of Thieves team. Instead of something that he and Mike had decided to put together, it came internally from Christina and the community team. It is just a way for the team to celebrate the community even more, and Neate added, “So, I love that it’s come about like that, and that is its purpose. That is its goal.”

Community Day celebrating the community, of course, is no big surprise, but knowing how it came together from the internal community is a nice touch to the decision. A recently-released Sea of Thieves roadmap shows how Community Days are planned for many of the upcoming seasons, so fans should be sure to keep a weather eye on the horizon for more events, following this weekend’s.

Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
