Before early 2020, there was no easy way for players to change their character. One would have to delete the character and start from scratch. However, there is now an item that players can purchase that allows them to change their appearance, but it's not going to be cheap.

How to Change Pirate Appearance in Sea of Thieves

Players can head on over to the Pirate Emporium and speak to the shopkeeper named Eduardo. Browse his wares and click on the Pirate tab on the top of the screen --it's between Pets and Ships. From there, players should see a Pirate Appearance Potion. This will change a pirate's appearance while keeping all progress. To actually use it, plauyers will need to leave the game and log in again.

To purchase the Pirate Appearance Potion, Sea of Thieves players will need to gather some Ancient Coins.

Where to Get Ancient Coins

The easiest way to get Ancient Coins in Sea of Thieves is by spending real-world money to buy them via the Pirate Emporium or the Microsoft and Steam stores, depending on the platform. The other two ways to get Ancient Coins is by defeating rare Ancient Skeletons, which are randomly found on islands or forts in Adventure Mode or the Arena. Once one of the skeletons is found, Sea of Thieves players will only have 20 seconds to kill it before it despawns. Luckily, Ancient Coins will be shared between crewmates, so there's no need to worry about someone taking all of the valuable treasure.

If players don't want to spend time collecting the Ancient Coins or use real cash, the only other option is to delete their pirate and make a new one. To delete player's pirates, they need to head to the main menu, then Pirate Settings, and then choose 'Delete Pirate.' Players will lose all progress for the pirate, but now, players can start fresh and choose a new look.

Sea of Thieves is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
