Sea of Thieves is enjoying a strong surge in popularity, and that’s saying something. The Rare-developed pirate game has had a strong past two years, even if its launch didn’t exactly land well with everyone. Either way, it’s clear the developer is making the most of it, as Sea of Thieves’ crossovers have thus far been quite impressive.

Recently, for example, Sea of Thieves released massive crossover content with Pirates of the Caribbean. If any pirate fans were hesitant to check it out beforehand, adding Jack Sparrow and more content did a lot to invite new and returning players back to the game. While much smaller in scope in comparison, Sea of Thieves developer Rare has confirmed the game’s next crossover as part of Xbox’s Gamescom event.

Dubbed the Making Mayhem event, Sea of Thieves is adding new Borderlands-inspired content to the game. The big attraction is a Borderlands-inspired ship, which is covered all over in various Vault symbols. On the bow of the ship is a figurehead of a pirate-based Claptrap, adding more than enough flair for any fan of both franchises to try and obtain.

To do so, players have to earn enough Favor during the event. It lasts from August 24 until September 7, meaning players have roughly two weeks to complete this crossover event. Luckily, it sounds like that is more than enough time. Furthermore, players simply need to travel to a Sea of Thieves outpost during the time window to find more precise details for said event, which promises chaotic activities for players to get involved in.

This crossover is likely one of the biggest announcements to come from Xbox’s Gamescom Showcase, as Halo Infinite did not make an appearance. Still, Xbox came out swinging in terms of content, confirming several Humble Games coming to Game Pass on day one thanks to a new partnership, Xbox Cloud coming to consoles, a jaw-dropping trailer for Forza Horizon 5, and more.

This won’t be the end of it, either. While Xbox’s showcase is today, Gamescom Opening Night Live begins tomorrow. With the promise of 30 or so games at the show, it’s interesting that confirmed games include Saints Row, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Far Cry 6, and more. Overall, Xbox has set a strong tone for the overall event, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes of it. And while waiting for that stream to start, players will be able to dive into Sea of Thieves’ Making Mayhem crossover event.

Sea of Thieves is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
