Rare has pulled the curtain back on Sea of Thieves' plans for 2022, which could add up to making this year the biggest yet for the developer's popular open world pirate game. Rare's plans for Sea of Thieves in 2022 includes the introduction of new story content through Adventures, the addition of raids through Sea Forts, and new seasonal items added to the game every few months.

There's a lot coming to Sea of Thieves in Seasons 6, 7, 8, and 9, but while there's a lot for fans to look forward to this year, it should be noted that some content is getting removed as well. Alongside revealing the Sea of Thieves 2022 roadmap, Rare also confirmed the bad news that the PvP Arena is going to close down. Rare didn't provide a specific date for the Arena shutdown, but did say that it would be removed at some point during Season 6.

Sea of Thieves Season 6 will kick off in March 2022, though a specific date for that hasn't been revealed either at the time of this writing. Regardless, Sea of Thieves fans know that the Arena will likely be getting removed at some point in March 2022, unless Rare decides to remove it a littler in the season, and so players only have a couple of months to get their fill of the game mode.

When the Sea of Thieves Arena is removed, it means that there will be certain achievements in the game that are potentially lost forever. Rare has said that it is investigating ways that these achievements may be unlocked after Arena is gone, but hasn't provided specifics. With this in mind, Sea of Thieves enthusiasts should prepare themselves for the possibility that they may very well be locked out of unlocking some of the achievements in the game once Arena is gone.

In total, there are 12 Sea of Thieves Arena achievements that will potentially be gone forever once the Arena is removed. It's entirely possible that Rare will do something to change these achievements and make them available in another fashion, but concrete details on that front have not been confirmed at the time of this writing. Completionists who would rather be safe than sorry will want to start working towards getting these Sea of Thieves achievements ASAP, as some of them will require a serious time investment.

There are some fairly straightforward and easy Sea of Thieves achievements, but there are also some that demand players put in a lot of hours. This includes some of the Sea of Thieves Arena achievements, namely the ones that require players to get first place 100 times and to get first place 100 times as a Pirate Legend. Since Sea of Thieves players aren't guaranteed a first-place victory every time, these achievements require dozens upon dozens of hours of playing the Arena to unlock.

Some of the other Sea of Thieves Arena achievements are a little easier, like the Hot Tub Crime Machine achievement, for example. To get this achievement, Sea of Thieves players need to hang out in the lobby's hot tub with at least one member of every crew that's waiting for the match to start. It stands to reason that there will be an influx of Sea of Thieves players trying to unlock this achievement, so it may be even easier to get than usual, though fans may need to do some communicating if they want to unlock it.

With enough perseverance, Sea of Thieves players can unlock all these Arena achievements ahead of the mode being removed in Season 6. Those who aren't as worried about the achievements being lost forever may want to hold off, though, as it's entirely possible Rare will institute an easier way to unlock the achievements in the game. Time will tell, but Sea of Thieves fans should find out sooner rather than later.

Sea of Thieves is out now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
