Sea of Stars is an upcoming turn-based RPG being made by developer Sabotage Studio, the developer behind side-scrolling platformer The Messenger. The new game is a prequel to The Messenger that was fully funded on Kickstarter and is heavily inspired by classic 90s RPGs like Chrono Trigger as a notable example.

Sea of Stars was originally announced back in 2020 and would later reveal an initial release window of 2022 for PC and Nintendo Switch. However, like many things that come with game development, there are some decisions made for the benefit of the developers and the game itself. Sabotage Studio released a statement earlier today to provide an update about the game's current status and revealed that the release date for Sea of Stars has been moved from 2022 to 2023.

Previously, Sea of Stars's release window for Holiday 2022 was revealed in an announcement trailer back in 2021. This time around, Sabotage Studio revealed the news on a Twitter post containing an official statement from the development team informing everyone of Sea of Stars' delay. The delay will no doubt come as a shock to players and supporters looking forward to the game's release this year, but the official statement provides the reason behind the decision to delay Sea of Stars' release.

According to the statement, the developers are approaching a major milestone for Sea of Stars' development. As such, the main priorities of Sabotage Studio are the quality of life for the development team as well as for the game itself. This can be interpreted to mean that the developer is making sure to prioritize the team's health and give Sea of Stars the time it needs to be finished when it officially releases. Sabotage also expresses gratitude from the development team in the statement towards those who have supported the studio and continue to do so.

The general reception to the statement was a mixture of reactions in the comments. Plenty of the commenters were sad to hear that the game has been delayed to 2023 since they were looking forward to the game's release. However, there were also many commenters who were very understanding about the delay and expressed support for the development team. Many also expressed in one way or another how they were willing to wait for the developers to take their time with finishing development on Sea of Stars.

However, despite this shocking news about Sea of Stars' delay, there's still some good news for players and supporters of the game. According to the statement, the developer is looking into potential "options" so that it can get a "playable slice" of Sea of Stars available to players this year before the game's official release next year.

Sea of Stars is scheduled to release in 2023 for PC and Switch.
