While it might be hard for some to believe, the PS5 is over a year old. With the release of this next-gen system from Sony, many PlayStation fans were introduced to next-generation gaming technologies, including faster load times with SSDs and improved lighting with raytracing. In addition to these advancements in console hardware, the system came with a new controller, the DualSense.

Packaged with the PS5, the DualSense was the newest controller design from PlayStation. With impressive new features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, many fans liked the look and feel of the gamepad. Following this positive reception to the DualSense, it was only a matter of time until third-party alternatives became available. While it took over a year after the PS5 was released, popular controller manufacturer Scuf finally looks to be providing an alternative gamepad based on the DualSense design.

Recently, Scuf announced a new line of custom controllers made for the PS5. This new collection called the Reflex series contains 3 different options: the Reflex, Reflex Pro, and Reflex FPS. Copying aspects of the iconic DualSense design while also making several enhancements, these gamepads look to take gaming to the next level. However, it should be noted that each of these custom controllers costs considerably more than a standard DualSense. The prices are $199.99 for the Reflex, $229.99 for the Reflex Pro, and $259.99 for the Reflex FPS.

With such a hefty price tag, it’s understandable that this type of controller probably isn’t the right fit for every gamer. However, this Reflex line of gamepads does offer several perks for those looking to boost their gaming performance. Among the features included in these custom controllers is the option to swap between different colored faceplates and anti-friction rings. It’s worth pointing out that only one color (black) is currently available for the faceplates, but more options are expected to release in the coming months. In addition to these color options, all Reflex controllers come with 4 remappable back paddles and several interchangeable thumbsticks.

Besides these nice updates, the Reflex Pro and Reflex FPS come with even more features. Both of these expensive controllers feature a “high-performance” grip, supposedly making them more comfortable for long gaming sessions. In addition, the Reflex FPS, the priciest option, is equipped with instant triggers that reduce input delay. This feature contrasts the Reflex and Reflex Pro that maintain haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

It’s exciting for PlayStation fans to finally have a third-party alternative controller for the PS5. It will be interesting to see the reception of these gamepads and how they compare to the cheaper DualSense over the coming days.
