As the ongoing coronavirus pandemic shut down large public gathering places and live events around the world, esports like Activision's Call of Duty League (CDL) had to shift to online formats with new schedules. That seems to have worked out fairly well for the competitive first-person shooter scene, which continues to be popular enough that now special-edition PlayStation 4 controllers have been released based on each team in the CDL.

Custom controller manufacturer SCUF Gaming announced 13 new designs featured on both its "Infinity 4PS Pro" and "Impact" devices June 25, meant to "commemorate the inaugural season of the Call of Duty League." One design is a basic greyscale cameo meant to represent the CDL as a whole, while the other 12 are based on teams: The Toronto Ultra, Seattle Surge, Paris Legion, OpTic Gaming, New York Subliners, Minnesota Rokkr, Los Angeles Guerrillas, London Royal Ravens, Florida Multineers, Dallas Empire, Chicago Huntsman, and Atlanta Faze.

CDL models for the SCUF Infinity 4PS Pro cost about $160, while the SCUF Impact models — including optional features like removable paddles and adjustable hair triggers — cost about $170. The breadth of teams involved in the league means there are a variety of color options to choose from, but fans who keep up with matches streaming exclusively on YouTube Gaming will no doubt want to rep their specific team of choice.

Those who are fans of Activision's first-person shooter series, but are not necessarily interested in its esports extension, can still look forward to having more to do in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone soon. The mid-season update for these games will launch tomorrow, and bring with it new content including the Cheshire Park multiplayer map, Roze as a playable operator, and the Rytec AMR sniper rifle.

Warzone, Activision's take on the battle royale genre popularized by games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Epic Games' Fortnite, will also be getting a few specific large additions as part of the Season 4 Reloaded update. Its most notable addition is a 200-player battle royale mode, consisting of 50 teams of four battling on the Verdansk map.

Whether or not the new additions being made to these games will affect the Call of Duty League will have to be seen, but it is not unprecedented. Earlier this month, members of the league complained about silent updates made by Infinity Ward that changed aspects of the game like spawn locations.
