Scream 5, which will simply go by the title Scream, was announced a little over two years ago and is finally well on its way to the big screen. The new movie seems to be following the lead of the slasher franchise Halloween by returning to the original title of the first film in the series. Some new photos come from the sound department of the upcoming film, showcasing a fresh look at the iconic Ghostface killer.

Post-production just finished up for Scream 5 and crew members have been posting some sneak peeks at the film on social media. Co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin Tweeted that the movie was finally finished along with a photo of the movie's opening title scene. Greg Russell, a mixer on the project, also uploaded some more photos of the final editing sessions on his Instagram account, where the still image of Ghostface can be seen.

Fans of the original films will be happy to know that Scream 5 will not be making any changes to the original mask design, unlike the recent MTV entry in the franchise. The Scream 5 images of Ghostface show the iconic character preserved just the way we remember him. Few plot details have been released other than the fact that the Ghostface mask will be worn by a new killer (or killers). With Wes Craven's death in 2015, the new film is meant to be made in his honor, hopefully doing the franchise some justice.

A majority of original cast members will be in the film including Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks. There are also some new cast members like Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sonia Ben Ammar, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding, and Kyle Gallner.

Scream 4 debuted in 2011, with Wes Craven still on the project. The film centered on Sidney's return to Woodsboro, sparking Ghostface's return. With Sidney surviving the brutal attack once again at the end of Scream 4, why she might revisit her hometown, or what could possibly cause the return of Ghostface for the fifth time, remains a mystery.

Many of the new cast additions for Scream 5 are significantly younger and their characters could possibly be the children of the original main group. So, maybe the story will carry on through them. If this is the case, will this open up the opportunity for even more Scream films in the future?

Scream 5  is scheduled to be released in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022.
