It's been nearly a decade since Scream 4 premiered in theaters, but now the next entry in the Scream franchiseScream 5, is finally moving forward. Scream 5 is expected to start filming later this year, and now it's been confirmed that David Arquette will be reprising his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley.

Scream 5 is intended to be a reboot of the Scream franchise, with plans on including more legacy characters besides just David Arquette's Dewey Riley. No other cast members have been confirmed at the time of this writing, but Spyglass Media Group has been having talks with them. For what it's worth, Matthew Lillard, whose characters was killed off in the original Scream, has expressed an interest in appearing in Scream 5.

Speaking to Deadline, David Arquette expressed his excitement to return to the Scream franchise. "I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new. Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven's legacy."

Scream 5 is expected to hit theaters at some point in 2021, though no specific release date has been revealed at the time of this writing. Right now, movie theaters and the rest of the world are currently grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, and it's quite possible that the virus will delay Scream 5 as it has many other movies, but that remains to be seen.
