Scream 5 doesn't blow open new doors. There isn’t time travel involved or any fancy CG of any sort. Like the films that came before it, everything is based on practical effects for the most part. 2022's Scream, thankfully, doesn’t jump the shark.

Even the reveal at the end with the Ghostface killer/killers shouldn’t be that shocking. That said, none of this means the movie isn’t good. It fits into a nice comfort zone that most fans of the original trilogy should dig. There are some logistical issues with the plot that may leave some fans scratching their heads though. Let’s find out why in this spoiler-filled breakdown of 2022's Scream's plot holes or inconsistencies.

7 Tara’s Attack

Tara from Scream 5

This is the first time a movie in this series opens without death occurring. Tara not dying bucked the tradition. However, her survival doesn’t make a lot of sense. The number of injuries she receives is too numerous to count. She could survive but it is very unlikely.

Consider the fact that Amber, who was the Ghostface at the time, is not a trained assassin; consequently, she shouldn’t know the exact number of stabs she could induce on Tara before she passed out instead of dying. However, if Tara did die, Amber and Richie’s plan may have still worked. Sam would have to return to Woodsboro anyway for a funeral. Maybe this was just an accident then.

6 Ghostface Stealth

Vince from Scream 5

One of the things that have bothered fans of the series since the first Scream is the power of the Ghostface killers. To fool the audience, every Ghostface killer looks the same in size and shape. When they get their reveal scenes, their stature is different. For example, Jill from Scream 4 is a short, petite girl.

Her costume reflects that in her reveal scene. However, this is not true when she is killing elsewhere. It’s also hard to believe that all of these amateur killers couldn’t be overpowered in their costumes but they could be by the end of each movie. Is Amber from Scream 5 that strong? This is just the tip of the iceberg of problems regarding Ghostface killers. It’s best not to think about too much to uphold the illusion of the series.

5 Sam Seeing Billy

Sam from Scream 5

How exactly do Sam’s visions work? She never met her father since Billy died at the end of the first Scream. She wasn’t even born yet. It’s odd then that she sees Billy as he appeared at the end of that movie. This was seemingly done to tug at the nostalgia of the viewers.

There are two ways to look at this logically. One, her mother showed Sam a picture of her father in a similar outfit. Two, she watched the first Stab movie and replaced Luke Wilson, who played Billy in this fake version, with the real killer's face while keeping the costume in mind. Those two theories are a bit of a stretch but suffice it to say Sam’s visions needed a lot more explanation.

4 Not Unmasking The Killer In The Hospital

Dewey from Scream 5

About halfway through the story, it starts to seem like Scream 5 is going to revert another trope. Dewey seemingly takes out the Ghostface killer on the return to the hospital. The danger was eliminated so Dewey and the others should have gathered around the body to unmask it.

That would have been the obvious thing to do. However, by the time Dewey decides to go back, this killer, who is Amber, gets her second wind and takes out Dewey no problem. If only the team unmasked her at the start, Dewey would still be alive.

3 Why Did Chad Play That App Game To Find Liv

Liv from Scream 5

Chad plays it smart at the end party. Liv wants to go upstairs to make out with him, but Chad realizes she might be the killer. She gets mad and rightfully storms off which Chad funnily doesn’t blame her for. Chad knows he is inside a horror movie.

Eventually, Chad gets worried about Liv, so he starts to look for her. Chad gets an invitation from “Liv” from an unknown app once he gets outside. He doesn’t find this suspicious at all? That’s hard to believe since he played it so smart inside the house. Does Chad have a split personality that makes him either smart or dumb on a dime?

2 Sidney Shooting Doors

Sidney from Scream 5

At the end of 2022's Scream, Sidney turns into an '80s action star. She starts shooting doors indiscriminately while searching inside the house. Doesn’t she realize people might be too afraid to go outside if someone is wielding a gun wildly around?

Once Sidney shoots Richie, that’s exactly the point he brings up. Turns out Sidney was in the right to shoot Richie since he was one of the Ghostface killers. She didn’t know that at the time though so the shooting was a bit reckless.

1 Too Many Survivors

Mindy from Scream 5

Tara is not the only victim to survive her killer. Mindy and Chad almost bite the bucket as well. The three of them should have died. They are shown to be torn apart and would not receive medical attention for an unknown amount of time.

Bleeding out can lead to a lot of death in reality. They’re pretty lucky. Sam, Sidney, and Gale also suffered injuries, but none of their wounds looked that bad comparatively. It is surprising how many survivors there were in 2022's Scream since most entries in this series end with so little. It’s another nice turn on an old trope while also not making the most sense.
