With the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World movie coming in August, Ubisoft is giving fans the opportunity to battle through Ramona’s seven evil exes with the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World side-scrolling beat ’em up game. The gameplay trailer revealed at E3 created quite the positive buzz for the game, which takes it’s style straight from the comic book.

Loosely following the plot of the graphic novels, up to four players can play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine or Stephen Stills, who must battle through several levels in order to defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes. Defeating enemies earns coins which can be spent on health or attributes. Characters have individual movesets which can be expanded. The characters are also able to use weapons and summon an assist character.

We now know when the game will be available to the public. On August 10th, three days before the movie’s release, it will be available for purchase on the PlayStation Network. For two weeks it will be a PSN exclusive. Xbox 360 gamers will get their chance to rock out with Scott Pilgrim when it’s released on the Xbox Live Arcade August 25th. Two weeks isn’t that long to wait for us Xbox 360 owners to wait. I feared it would be a longer one.

Having never read the comic but falling in love with the vibrant movie trailer, I am very excited to play this game. It looks like a true representative of the story’s universe instead of a cheap cash-in.
