Whilst Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game may be impossible to purchase right now, renewed interest surrounding the film's 10th anniversary has fans hopeful that it may come back. Creator of the original graphic novel series, Bryan Lee O'Malley, earlier this year tweeted his support for the game to be brought back, which interestingly received a response from the game's developer Ubisoft.

When Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game was delisted from PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, fans were disappointed to see the stylized beat 'em up disappear despite its strong following. However, this year is the film's 10th anniversary which was celebrated with a charity table read by the film's cast.

This has resulted in renewed interest in the character on social media, with the graphic novel series, film and game already having strong cult followings. Fans took to social media after Scott Pilgrim became a trending topic, asking Ubisoft to bring back the game after six years without a way to get it beyond having it already downloaded on a system.

This isn't the first time this year discussion about the game has captivated fans; concept art of the game resurfaced through a tweet from artist Jonathan Lee. It would be great to see the game come back, though there are concerns surrounding the expired license which was probably the reason it got de-listed in the first place.

The beat 'em up genre has a long and storied history with Capcom's entries being the most celebrated. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game impressed fans and critics with its stylized presentation featuring retro graphics and a chiptune soundtrack by Anamanguchi and there are hopes that if it comes back, it could lead to a return of the genre as a whole.

With plans to re-release the film in cinemas having been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the return of the game would be a great way to celebrate the film's 10th anniversary considering it was made as a tie-in for the film's release. If not, there's always a potential animated series on the cards.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is currently unavailable for purchase.
