While the Scott Pilgrim movie does stay faithful to what the comic represents, and most of the first volume, it is by no surprise a truncated version of the whole story. That means that a lot of characters got cut out. Some of these cuts include fun, but minor characters like Wallace's psychic boyfriend, Mobile. There's also the fact that while Crash and the Boys are in the film, they are killed off, which is something that doesn't even happen in the books.
The way in which they told the story instead made sense, but some fans might agree that adding in some of these characters might have made for a better movie. A TV show would have been a better choice altogether, but that is besides the point. Whether the following characters were completely cut out, ignored, or changed altogether, they are missed.
7 Kim’s Friends
There are quite a few characters tied to Kim that don’t make it into the movie. For starters, she has a job at the No-Account Video store where she works with Hollie Hawkes. She eventually moves in with her as well. Jason Kim and her briefly date before Hollie actually cheats with him behind Kim’s back. Prior to the move there are brief snippets of her old roommates Sara, Emily, and Tracy. There is also a brief scene with her family in the last book.
6 Joesph
Joseph comes into play when Kim moves as well, but he deserves his own synopsis. That’s because Stephen takes a shining to him when he finds out Joseph has a recording studio. From book four until the end, they are trying to record Sex Bob-omb’s album together.
That’s not even Joseph’s biggest role in the comics. By the end of of the final comic it is revealed that Stephen and Joseph were secretly dating, which is a huge deal and it not being addressed in the film is tragic. Realistically the film was about Scott and Ramona though so fitting this in would have also been weird.
5 Lisa Miller
The fourth book brings back someone from Scott’s past, Lisa Miller. She is seen first in a flashback when Scott was in high school and how he and Kim got together. Her role is rather big in this comic as her appearing makes Roxy Richter poison Ramona’s mind saying that Scott is trying to cheat on her. While that might not be true in Scott’s mind, Lisa is actually trying to rekindle something lost from years ago. Nothing happens for her, but this relationship helps Scott realize how much he loves Ramona.
4 Scott’s Family
Scott’s family is mentioned in the film when he shows Knives his childhood house, but that’s it. The only extended family in the film is his sister Stacey who has a smaller part than in the comics although not by much. It made sense to cut out his parents though as they seem to be traveling around the world in the comics anyway. There are some important flashbacks that could have been relevant though. Scott also has a brother, Lawrence, who is teased throughout the series until he finally makes an appearance toward the end of the comic when Scott mistakes him for Gideon.
3 Knives’ Family
This is interesting because Knives’ family is technically not in the movie. However, there was an alternate scene shot, which can be found on the Blu-Ray, where Scott and Knives first meet and her mom is in it. It’s an elimination by a technicality. Her mom and aunt aren’t that important compared to her dad.
In book four, a popular book one should realize by now in terms of cut content, Knives’ dad goes on a revenge spree against Scott for dumping Knives. He even fights Roxy so that he would have the honor of defeating Scott in her place. He never says a word but his blade work is incredible.
2 Lynette Guycott
Lynette is technically in the movie. She’s even in the credits, but she never says a single word or is even really addressed as someone in a room. That is to say her character got a huge downgrade. First of all, she is the one who punches the highlights out of Knives’ hair and not Todd. This scene also reveals she has a cybernetic arm. Perhaps the most interesting cut is the fact that she was cheating with Todd. When Envy finds out she turns on him which eventually leads to Scott defeating Todd.
1 Gideon The Cat
Early on Ramona rescues a cat and calls it Gideon. It’s a background character, or more like pet to be more natural, for most of the series. However, Gideon becomes important when Ramona runs away. Scott irresponsibly lets Gideon out and tries his darnedest to get him back. This chase for Gideon keeps him grounded in that he thinks if he keeps Gideon safe, this may lead to Ramona coming back in some sense. The cat then is more like an anchor than a character, but still important nonetheless for Scott’s final growth arc.
