The horror game that got its start on Kickstarter is finally and officially going to be landing on the PC and Xbox Series X/S next year. While Scorn was originally supposed to launch this year, developer Ebb Software pushed its release to 2022 a few months ago and now there's an official release month.

The development team for Scorn has been keeping people up to date on the progress of the Xbox Series X and PC game on Kickstarter for the last few years. While that info has been spotty, Ebb Software has been sharing more info of late. The latest piece of info didn't come from the crowdfunding site, however. This time around the company released a new trailer that showed off the familiar moody background of the game and finished up by announcing the new release date.

The new Scorn trailer doesn't shed much more light on the game than had been previously divulged in the last few years. However, the end of the video does announce the new release month as October of 2022.

Should the Ebb Software title finally release for the PC and Xbox Series X/S next fall, it would mark the end of a long and winding road. Scorn was first announced in 2016 and has been delayed a couple of times since then. Some of the announcements about the release date being delayed have not been met with encouraging comments by the game's backers on Kickstarter and that in turn has led to Ebb developers reacting in a way that even they've admitted wasn't the best possible approach.

In fact, when the game was delayed one more time earlier this fall, creative director Ljubomir Peklar put a post on Kickstarter that the Scorn developer eventually apologized for writing. In the apology, Peklar said that he had "haphazardly" approved the language for the announcement of the new delay, which many of the game's backers took as outwardly hostile. He added that while he didn't see it that way when he first approved the language he understands why some read it the way they did.

Part of that message was that Scorn backers who were tired of waiting for the game to be released could ask for a refund. It's not clear if any or how many people did actually ask for a refund from their Kickstarter investment. Those who did stick around are apparently finally going to be able to play Scorn on their current generation consoles next fall.

Scorn is slated for release for the PC and Xbox Series X/S in October of 2022.
