Scorn is Game Pass's latest horror-like video game. It's the perfect game for players looking for nightmarish content for the spooky month of October. Although it can be gory and put players on edge with its eerie atmosphere, it's a game mainly focused on puzzle solving. It takes advantage of its strange environment to provide uniquely macabre puzzles

The first puzzle can be difficult if the player hasn't grown used to the mechanics in the game and the overall controls. That's why this guide will show exactly how to open the first locked door in Scorn and make it possible to move forward to the main area.

How To Reach The First Room

spawning in act 1

Scorn is not much of an action horror game as it is a puzzle game, so the gameplay is much slower, even though it'll always leave those playing on edge due to the main character's surroundings. Right after spawning into the world of Scorn, players will be completely left on their own to move forward in the game; all they have with them is their instincts, for a while at least.

To get to the main area where most of Act 1 takes place, players will have to reach the first puzzle room and successfully open the door.

This works very much like a fast tutorial to understand how the puzzles work and to know what to expect in terms of encounters in the next couple of rooms. The controls are pretty simple, there's nothing too articulate to learn, fortunately.

Once the intro ends, players will be able to move at last. In order to get to the first room, players have to turn left and ignore the door right in front of the character - there's nothing to do here yet. Keep walking down the corridor, eventually walking by a room with a tall structure on the left; these are the type of structures that will constantly be in this bizarre world.

Many of the smaller rooms in Scorn are only there to add to the environment, players can't actually do anything there. Even if there's no puzzle in a certain room, it's a great way to add to the immersive and make it worth the exploration.

Move forward until the corridor comes to an end. There, players will find themselves on the balcony that overlooks the main/Spiral room. There's a door on the left that can't be opened for now and another corridor on the right; that's where they'll have to go.

Farther down the corridor, there will be a door on the left wall. Players can open the door by interacting with it. It'll close and lock right behind them, however. So they are now stuck in this room, and there is only one way out.

How To Open The Door

There is absolutely no way to open the first door and return to the corridor. So, to escape, players will have to unlock the large door at the end of the room. The door has a contraption right in front of it, but it's not possible to use it without collecting something to activate it first.

There's a terminal on the left side of the door that players can use by interacting with it. It might seem a bit sketchy, especially since the character has to stick their hand right into it. Some might be wondering if this might be dangerous and could cause damage, but there's nothing to worry about - even if it sucks the character's hand inside and seems to keep it there. Scorn is full of body horror, and if this part causes some nervousness, it's just a very small part of it.

The device implanted into the character's hand now allows them to interact with the contraptions that will be in the various rooms of the game - just like Link's Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild, the difference is that this once was pierced right into the character's flesh.

So, now, it's finally possible to interact with the contraption in front of the door. Players have to approach and interact with it to be able to control it and solve the puzzle.

first puzzle in the game

The puzzle is pretty simple, it's a tutorial to show players the basics of these contraptions. They will always have a 'use' button and a 'directions' button. The door has two gate locks; to open it, players will first have to unlock the left gate lock and then the right gate lock. Then, they can press and hold the 'exit' button to undock the character from the contraption.

As soon as they're no longer connected, the door will start closing because the locks are no longer being held in place by the contraption. To prevent the door from closing, gamers have to run toward the next room. To run in Scorn, players can press LB on the Xbox controller or Left Shift on PC. Those that don't make it time have to activate the contraption once more in the same way and try again. The door will lead players into the main/Spiral room of Act 1, this is where the first complex puzzle will take place, and the game starts properly beyond tutorials.

Scorn is available now for PC and Xbox Series X.
