Some of the most highly-anticipated AAA releases from the horror genre include The Callisto Protocol, the Dead Space remake, and now the recently revealed Resident Evil 4 remake. All of these games are set to either release this year or the following, giving fans plenty to choose from. There are also a number of smaller indie titles that are going to hit the scene this year as well, such as Ebb Software's Scorn, an Xbox console-exclusive horror game.

Scorn was first revealed for the Xbox Series X in 2020, with it being an atmospheric first-person horror game set in an eldritch world with a vaguely humanoid player character. This includes all manners of bizarre and grotesque architecture, which have regions that are all interconnected together and can be explored in a non-linear fashion. The game will offer the player a way to combat against the monsters that lurk in this world, with a variety of weapons and skills available for them to choose from. One of these monsters was revealed in a recent update from the developers in a short video clip.

This Scorn gameplay shows a player using a shotgun-esque weapon, with the caption "careless actions; dire consequences" as they shoot towards the enemy. The creature can be seen walking on four legs, passing by floors and passages covered in body parts and arms. The shotgun runs out of ammo right in the middle of the player's attack on the creature, which requires them to reload as the enemy draws closer.

This is part of the Scorn's inventory and ammo management gameplay, which plays a big role in the overall game. This includes when to take cover, how to use and conserve the player's limited ammo, and how to approach an encounter with certain enemies. This shows that different playstyles are going to be required at times, and that a player's actions are integral to surviving in the world of Scorn.

Fans expressed their excitement for the upcoming game, sharing how much they loved how Scorn looked or how detailed the grotesque nature and atmosphere were. Not only that, Scorn's developers assured that it is on-track to release later this year for Xbox and Steam platforms, with October still being the targeted release month, though an official date hasn't been stated yet.

Scorn is scheduled to release in October 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
