Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have arrived. The ninth generation of Pokemon games brings a lot of changes to the franchse. Picking up from where Pokemon Legends Arceus left off, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also give players an open-world environment to explore. Accompanying the open-world map, Scarlet and Violet also have three campaigns that players can tackle in any order.

The traditional route has Pokemon trainers making their way across the region of Paldea, fighting gym leaders for badges while collecting new 'mons. These ninth-generation games bring with them a whopping 107 new critters to catch and battle. Here is a look at some of the coolest new Pokemon designs from the latest iterations in the pocket monster franchise.

8 Koraidon

koraidon

Each generation of Pokemon games features new mascots on the box art. This time around, Pokemon Scarlet features Koraidon proudly on the cover. The mysterious Legendary Pokemon has more than one form and can also be used as transportation for players while exploring.

Koraidon looks like an ancient dragon crossed with a motorcycle. Players will encounter Koraidon in Pokemon Scarlet early on. The Pokemon will join the player's party, but instead of being a selectable combatant, Koraidon takes on the form of a motorcycle to ride around on. Later in the game, further forms change Koraidon in looks and give him new modes of transportation.

7 Fuecoco

Fuecoco

Pokemon games always make the player pick a starter Pokemon near the game's beginning. These Pokemon are always Fire, Grass and Water types, except for Pokemon Yellow assigning Pikachu to the player. The Pokemon Let’s Go series also deviates from this rule.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players are asked to choose between Sprigatito, Quaxly, and Fuecoco. The little Fire-type dragon is one of the cutest ever Pokemon starter designs, with his wide open mouth and happy nature.

6 Pawmi

Again going for the cutest-ever award, Pawmi can be found early in the game. Usually hiding out alone, this tiny Electric-type mouse looks very much like a small teddy bear. Its orange fur is quite deceiving, as orange Pokemon traditionally have the fire type assigned to them.

Pawmi is an electric type Pokemon with two further stages of evolution, neither matching the cuteness of Pawmi. Taking on a Pawmi early on can prove to be a tough fight if players underestimate one of them. They're handy to add to any team as an initial Electric-type

5 Charcadet

charcadet

This Pokemon resembles a tiny little knight in red armor. Charcadet is a Fire-type Pokemon that can be found all over Paldea. These child-like Pokemon have different evolutions depending on which armor type players choose to give Charcadet, and the armor available varies by game version.

The little knights can be evolved by giving them Auspicious or Malicious Srmor. The resulting evolution changes Charcadet's looks and adds either the Psychic or Ghost type, depending on which evolution occurs. Armarouge takes Psychic on with its existing Fire type, and Ceruledge takes Ghost on as a secondary type instead.

4 Scovillain

A play on the words Scoville, which is used to measure the spiciness of peppers, and "villain," Scovillain is a dual-type Pokemon. For the first time in the franchise, Grass and Fire have been combined.

Scovillain evolves from Capsakid when given a Fire Stone. When evolved, this Pokemon features two bell pepper heads and a body like an Exeggutor. The redhead is a Fire-type, which allows Scovillain to use Fire-type moves. The green head is a Grass-type, allowing for Grass-type moves. This mix-up of two opposing types can make for a handy edition for the trainer's battle lineup.

3 Kingambit

The method to evolve a Kingambit is quite complex. That said, the reward of having this amazing-looking Pokemon to add to the party is very much worth it. Kingambit is a Dark/Steel type, like its prior evolutions.

As mentioned, the way to obtain a Kingambit is not so straightforward. Firstly, a Pawniard must be raised to level 52 for it to evolve into Bisharp. Next, to evolve, the player's Bisharp must beat three other Bisharp surrounded by Pawniard. It's one of the most unique methods of evolution seen in the entire franchise.

2 Iron Moth

This Fire/Poison type can prove a formidable foe if players misjudge it. The combination of Fire moves with their burn status effect, combined with Poison moves that can leave Pokemon poisoned, are tough to counter. Surprisingly not having the Bug or Grass type, as looks might suggest, Iron Moth can be deceiving for unassuming players who mistake it for either of those.

This Violet-exclusive Pokemon is reminiscent of the Promethean enemies from Halo 4. It's an unusual-looking creature that appears to be an ancient form of Volcarona, which first appeared in Generation 5. Iron Moth resembles an alien bug and has no evolutionary line.

1 Chien-Pao

Chien-Pao

Chien-Pao is a member of the Treasures of Ruin, four legendary Pokemon that were once ancient treasures. These legendary Pokemon have been corrupted by the King's greed, leading to them destroying the land.

The Treasures of Ruin were sealed in shrines by ancient Pokemon users to contain the threat. Chien-Pao looks like a sea otter holding a fish in its mouth. The creature is Dark/Ice-type, meaning it has very powerful attacks. Feline-like with a coat designed for the snow, Chien-Pao is a cool-looking Pokemon in more ways than one.
